Horror flicks at christmas...?

Is Death and Distruction the new christmas spirit ?

Now dont get me wrong .. i like a great horror movie as much as the next guy ... but what is wrong with the movie industry ?... again its been announced a horror flick is going to be released on Christmas day ...( a house that kids disappear in )... what is wrong with this picture ?....

in the last 10 years or so i have noticed a riseing trend for movie studios to release horror films during christmas time ...i believe the first was "silent night deadly night"(at least it was sort of christmas related):\... since then more and more are not being released for halloween .. but held off til christmas..... why ? the shock value ?or the fact that most youths are out of school for a week and see an opportunity to cash in on their free time ???.are the movie studios trying to disasociate christmas with peace on earth and replace it with killing and death?... do the movie studios have an agenda to destroy the spirit of christmas ?

i enjoy the time of year where we all treat each other a little better ..walk a little lighter ..the feeling of happyness that fills the crisp winters air ..and im getting tired of some studio exec trying to ruin it with blareing commercials of blood and guts....

please comment....

I think the name of the one coming out this year is "The Darkness". I agree that horror movies shouldn't be relase on christmas day. However, it's not like they can release a jolly christmas story on christmas day; once people actually started to see it, Christmas would be over.
I really don't think movies like this are the "death and distruction" of the christmas spirit because the people who go and see these kinds of movies on Christmas either don't celebrate or don't have the spirit to begin with (I might be generalizing there). The number of times I watch TV, the amount of holiday commercials around this time of year FAR outways the number of times I see scary, blood and guts previews. Most of the time now when I see previews like this, they are for video games anyway.

It's all about the almighty dollar... I agree that it stinks. Didn't this happen with that Eddie Murphy / Haunted House movie?? Halloween was WAY past when that one was released.

Christmas time is the time when people have money and time to spend, so it's the ideal time to release movies. And winter, with its cold, dark nights, is the perfect season for horror (although autumn is an even better season).

I'd say you're reading to much into it.

I don't think HG is reading too much into it. I think there is a good population of people in the world that do not celebrate Christmas. They are either of different culture or do not follow "Christian" holidays. Of those, there is probabbly a percentage that have actual animosity towards it (at least a small percent). Those percentages can be used in Hollywood as well as anywhere else. I don't doubt that there is intention to put that type of movie out on the day or the eve of the "most wonderful time of the year". Of course, I could be wrong, too.

Hum... I'm all for peace on earth, all year round actually. But I must admit I see nothing wrong with releasing a horror flick on christmas day. A lot of teens are really into that sort of movie, and wouldn't be caught dead (no pun intended) watching a cheesie xmas flick. With the way teens like to go against the accepted "norm", a lot of them probably love the idea of seeing a horror movie on christmas day. Nothing wrong with that. It doesn't hurt anybody and it's part of what growing up is all about (going against the social norm).

I could agree with you paxx. And if you question the intention of those releasing the film, it will always be about green (not smilies). It's just not within the realm of my personal idea of one of the good things in life.

$$$$ !!!!! $$$$$

i agree paxx that teenagers will try to rebel against the norm ... but it makes me sick that there are those who will try to cash in on it and use what ever tasteles means to do so...
