Pb on my PC with Bootskin (sometimes...)

Anyone who could provide help, thanks ! Sometimes on my machine, skins for Bootskins (some but not others) are displayed in 256 colors when loaded. I give examples with what I have downloaded until now: the "Themed Edition" bootskin: always 256 colors (except on the first time loaded, seems a long time ago...) The "Overclocked Edition": no problem (never), The "India Edition": 256 colors displayed. The "Last Edition": no problem (never), The "Space Edition": 256 colors. Last example: the "Toon Edition" (one of those given with the program): works correctly. How to explain this ?

Bootskins are ALWAYS only 256 colors. It's a Windows system limitation.

Depends on the image. Some images come out not too bad at 256 colors, and some come up horribly.  It also depends how the 256 colors are distributed (how much dithering, etc.)  A few factors can impact on the overall quality of the end result. But the fact remains: all bootskins are 256 colors.  Beware though: some skinners "cheat" and show you a full color preview on this site, although the actual bootskin is in 256 colors.

Alright. I did not know about it (the 256 colors), but you are right about the preview ! Well thank you Paxx. I just hope Bootskin will keep on being upgraded ! I think it is one of the nicest part of Object Desktop !

Unless there's a new version of the program that I've missed, BootSkins are 16 colors, not 256.

Oh, damn, you're right, K! I wasn't thinking. It's 4 bits, not 8 bits! Duh!

Anyway, same idea though Jk8x3. Some look ok in 16 colors, some don't.  Replace "256" with "16" and #3 post still applies.
