... some people using AOL seem to be having some problems with it.

Yup, from what I've just read its cos folks use these programs and blindly erase files without double checking. I understand that us non tekkies have to trust to a degree - but it doesn't take long to double check with Google or write to the forums before removing drivers from critical folders. These folks seem to have deleted their zlib.dll file from their AOL folder on advice from AASE also someone took out their moz.dll file - guess what browser didn't work then ?

I don't know if there are any other misleading readings - but I did note that Ad-aware only ever calls up IE which supposes a lack of sympathy with other browsers. I should think those in the know lurch permanently between pulling their hair out in frustration and laughing hysterically as the rest of us learn from our mistakes (hopefully).

Ad-Aware now supports custom graphical Skins

That's interesting.

The default skin that comes with the program, is a password protected zip Guess they don't want skinrelated bug reports at this stage.

I bit the bullet and installed the new Ad-aware SE 1.1

It installed and ran without problems - possibly the fact its 1.1 means they have already told it to ignore the AOL and Mozilla drivers? Anyway I run both AOL and Firefox and they didn't show up on either the full or smart scans. There seems to be a lot of support both built in and at the forums which is useful if you need to check out an identified file.

You're right Journeyman, that has been taken care of, in addition to a couple of other minor issues. It didn't find anything on my PC, but then again, I use Spybot Search & Destroy and Winpatrol in addition to access internet via a LAN behind a firewall...

Lavasoft have released an update to definitions file to resolve the problem with AOL. To ensure that you can update the definitions file please ensure that you update Ad-Adware SE to verison 1.02. You can see the build version in the bottom right-hand corner when you first start Ad-Aware SE.

Any queries can be answered in the Lavasoft support forums at http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/

Enjoy

Ad-Aware SE is not calling Internet explorer. This effect is due to the fact that firefox/mozilla doesnt make the required changes to the registry. You need to set html to "Open with" to your preferred browser and it will work as expected.

HTML is set to open with Opera, but that seems to make no difference to Ad-Aware SE.

Help me out - I'm not sure if what you're saying is so obvious i've already done it and don't know it (a possible unfamiliarity with phrasing) - or if this is a setting I just haven't had a need to use yet, which is quite possible - so where exactly would I look to make this change assuming we're not just talking about making Firefox my default?

Folder Options, either via Control Panel, or from the Tools menu in an open folder > File Types tab.  I've even tried right clicking an html file and going to the Open With setting, and setting that to always open with Opera, but it has made no difference to Ad-Aware SE. (I suspect ActiveX components being used is the reason)

I wasn't aware of that particular option - but I've checked and it has already set itself to Firefox. As always Koasati, clear and concise - many thanks.

Edited cos I missed that alpha-prime had already provided info about additional update.
