Effects, if any, on the operation of WindowBlinds et cetera w/Microsoft SP2 onboard?

I'm using SP2 RC2 and everything works fine...

O.K., is that the "same" SP2 that will be available soon?

Hey Fuzzy...did you get any of the warning they were refering to in the article? Did you have any headaches at all with it? I'm still debating whether to install it or not. Everything seems to be working fine on my PC so I'm lookng for reasons to install it.

@ webgizmos, I would wait till the release comes out at this point.

That's pretty much what I'm doing at this point. Right now I'm just fishin for input. I've been hearing some good and some bad about this SP2, so I'm debating whether I'm going to install it when it is released. Right now I don't see any issues that would warrant me doing this install until they work out their bugs with it.

I've tried for the last 3 days to install SP2 RC2. No luck. Just won't install and keep messing up my system so much that the only recourse has been to do a clean install of XP. There has been many complaints about the same problems I have been having, at the SP2 Newsgroups at MS. Hopefully, the problems will be worked out or I doubt that a lot of people will be updating to SP2 when it is finally released.

The only minor problem with SP2 is it tells me my Norton Antivirus definitions are out of date... I've set it to ignore that.

Everything else is as smooth as can be...

All cases of problems I've seen (and heard of on those very same ng's) to date with the RC's have been the system to begin with...not SP2. I've setup SP2-RC2 on about twenty test system is different ways with no problems whatsoever. Quit talking out your @$$. There's only one reason not to go to SP2 when it's release...foolishness.

Orion: Please keep your language at a 'lower' level, no need to fling profanities at people for shareing their experiences. Maybe you havent noticed, but not all system 'functions' equal!

PS.: Oh... so I am a fool because I dont want to install SP2?! Maybe you should stop talking out of......

I couldn't get the build 2149 to work ...but hte latest rc 2162 has worked quite well on the 5 machines i've put it on so far

I may be foolish but I haven't read anything yet that convinced me to install it when it comes out. I consider my computer secured enough, so if SP2 is only about security I'm afraid it will just make my life even more difficult.

However, the rest stands. Yes, I think you're foolish if you don't update to SP2 when it's released. Obviouly, you're not foolish for not doing now. The feeling I'm getting from many of my vendors is that within a relatively short amount of time (less than a year) most stuff will require SP2. Don't want to update for one silly reason or another?... fine with me. It's your loss.

The problem with what you've said is that I had SP1 RC1 installed and running fine. It is the RC2 that won't install. If my system had no problems with RC1 it shouldn't have any with RC2. I'm left to conclude that RC2 is the problem.

P.S. I don't really consider not updating my computers operating system from sp1 to sp2 a real "loss". The death of a parent or sibling, finding my bank account a couple thousand short or my house burning to the ground, these things I consider a "loss". A computer's operating system doesn't weigh that heavily in my daily life.

You know what? It really doesn't matter. Disregard both of my posts. SP2 is wonderful and will work beautifully for everyone. I recommend updated to SP2 the moment it is released. I guarantee there will be no problems.

"We recommend that you not install the RC2 version of SP2 on computers that have Automatic Updates turned on. Instead, install the final, improved version of Windows XP SP2 when it becomes available. Installing the RC2 version of SP2 can cause incompatibilities on computers that also have the latest security updates installed. The final release of SP2 will resolve these issues."

Hmmm, seems RC2 was the problem after all.

@UBoB...Thanks for the info UBoB. This is the kind of input I'm looking for. Much appreciated. I guess some people just don't understand that not all systems react the same to certain updates or software, so its always good to get everyones input before foolishly installing it without making inquiries.
