"Open file location" with disabled "Allow navigation"

It would be great if clicking "Open file location" opened windows explorer (as it does on a default desktop) while "Allow navigation" is switched off. Right now it simply does nothing. I like this function, and I'm disappointed that it still doesn't work in Fences, so many years after release.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more on your system.

  1. Windows full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe to get it.
  2. Fences full version number.
  3. I believe you referring to Folder portal Fences, yes? If so, what happen if you double click on the folder icon?

Here what happen on my system.

Thank you,

Hi. I didn't even consider of this being a bug, as I automatically assumed that this feature was just never implemented. Sorry 🙄

I'm using Fences 3.16.0, but I also experienced the same issue with the latest Fences 6 while running a trial period.

I have Windows 10 22H2 (build 19045.6456). The thing is, it has Russian language installed, so that could be a source of the bug.

Correct. I'm doing the same actions, but explorer never appears.

Let me know if you need me to gather any additional data.

Thanks in advance.

I can't reproduce your issue on my system. Perhaps, as a test, try these, Fences Sandbox test: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1416560645/Testing+Fences+in+Sandbox. Does it work as it should in the Sandbox. Try that and report back.

Note: I can't test Fences v3 on my Windows 11 system, obviously Fences v3 not compatible on Win 10/11 system, it might work, but expect strange behavior from it.

Thank you,

Hi Scope40k, great minds think alike! 😆 Good news, this is in the next build.

The team just happened to have this thought while using the nav - that it felt logical that if you’re bothering to right click and hit open, that you probably would like to open and not navigate, as you say. So we threw it in.

No timeline right at this second, but I’d say probably something if not a beta within the next few weeks, I’m guessing we’ll ship early Dec as final pushed update for the year.

Appreciate you coming here to make the suggestion! Feedback at large is welcome. Cheers
