Taskbar behavior Start 11 2.53

Good to have the v2.53 update, however it seems to have introduced an odd unwanted behavior.

You have an app and half dozen of its child document windows showing in the taskbar.  You hover over them, and larger icons w/ thumbnails for these appear above the taskbar.  You want to use the Close control on several of the documents, and you click the Close X control on the first one.  Instead of remaining visible, lined up in position immediately above the taskbar, and closing up the row when individual items are closed (= previous behavior of Start8/10 and earlier (?) Start 11 versions), now the row of icons jumps up to the top edge of the desktop for about 2 seconds and then disappears.  I don't think that is the wanted behavior.  Don't see that this relates to any of Start 11's configuration settings.  Workaround is to repeatedly hover above the app's icons in the taskbar to bring them up into enlarged view for selective closing.

Start11 2.53, Win 11 Pro (updated to 8-25), Intel UHD graphics at 1280 x 1024.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try, uninstall Start11v2, reboot immediately (important), download latest version available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.

If the issue still appear, please post a video showing the issue.

now the row of icons jumps up to the top edge of the desktop for about 2 seconds and then disappears

Here is a gif to show the problem.  An app plus its 4 document windows (= 5 icons w/ thumbnails) appears after hover in taskbar (correct behavior), the right hand item is closed, then incorrectly the remaining 4 icons don't remain in position above the bottom edge taskbar, they jump to desktop top, and then disappear in 2 seconds (maybe because of mouse movement?).  I'll try to do v2.55 test ASAP.

Another item for 2.53:  when hovering over multiple related icons in the taskbar (app plus child windows), the right click context menu isn't showing a "Close all" option, as it did with previous Start10/11 versions.  Can that useful context menu command be re-added?

Hello again,

Yes, please report back when you have Start11v2.55 installed and tested. Remember to reboot as soon as installation is done.

Thank you,

Hello Basj:

Sorry, neither issue is resolved in the 2.55 version.

- when after hovering, the row of icons/thumbnails appears, and one is close, the remaining icons no longer pop to the top of the desktop and then disappear, they simply disappear in place (above the taskbar).  Instead, the row should close up and stay visible, to allow other selective window closures

- when the pointer is above one out of a group of icons (app plus child doc windows), the right click context menu should please show an option to "Close all" (as in previous StartX versions), this behavior is no longer  present in 2.55, restore that if possible

Tested on Win 11 Pro 24H2 bld 4946, Intel UHD 770 1280 x 1024 display

Hi larrycraw,

Thank you for posting.

Quoting larrycraw,

I haven't seen this to the extent you've pointed out in your gif (jumping to the top of the screen entirely).  I wonder if there may be something unique to your setup, and/or some specific setting configuration with Start11 that's exacerbating things on your end.

You can try backing up your Start11 settings before restoring them to the default, to see if a specific setting change can be isolated and identified as problematic for you:

That said, we'll have the jumpy behavior of the preview items logged for internal review:

  • Internal Ref: ODNT-11300

For the remaining issues, there are likely a number of differences with your setup (conflicting programs, Windows settings, display differences etc.) To investigate what may be occurring on your end, are you able to reproduce any of the mentioned issues in a default Windows environment, or without Start11 or other software?  We can suggest trying with the Windows Sandbox to test this, as detailed here:

Adam & Basj:

Testing updates:  (1) the symptom of icons jumping to top of desktop seems to have disappeared, after a newer non-WHQL version Intel video driver was installed, symptom can't be replicated now; (2) the issue with the non-persisting grouping of related windows seems to be related to the Windows (ie not Start11) Personalization setting for taskbar combining of buttons (behaves as expected when this is set to Always); (3) still not seeing the context menu option of "Close all windows" as in earlier Start versions.  Thanks for further checking on these.
