Donating Blood For Valentine's Day

Tomorrow at noon I am going to pick up "my best girl," my 9-year old daughter Lauren, and take her with me to donate blood at Red Cross. This will be my 23rd donation since 1994 according to Red Cross. Actually, I think that they missed some, but who is counting?

If the donation of blood isn't a sufficient good deed, I get to be a role model at the same time! Bonus!!! Plus, I just like sharing the experience. Anything I do with my kids around is good.

It makes me feel good. I will be happy all day, feeling that I have really accomplished something. Red Cross sent me a certificate after my last donation telling me that I had contributed to saving three lives. It also reminded me that I could donate again. Now that is marketing!

I would much rather be lying on a couch donating blood than on an OR gurney receiving it. Plus anything that requires that you eat cookies afterward can't be all bad. Cookies by prescription!

I urge anyone that can to donate blood. Not necessarily tomorrow, because then there might not be enough cookies. Just kidding. And if you a parent, take your kids with you.

Happy Valentines Day to all!

dropped a pint of plasma this morning. Good for you Larry. I don't think people realize how badly blood products are needed.

I also can't donate blood anymore due to some antibodies still hanging around in my bloodstream... a souvenir of my service in Africa. But I gave a bit over 5 gallons to the Red Cross before that, and I also urge anyone who is able to donate. Blood products are desperately needed worldwide and it can literally mean the difference between life and death to someone who needs it.

Fairly bad fear on needles. I know it's not logicial but that's just me.

Last time I tried something like that they were crossing me for a bone marrow transplant (I wasn't a good enough match). They said I should probably 'reserve' my veins since they were so tiny and hard to find.

I think that was just a frustrated tech. I should try again.

You should try again GM. I have what they call rollie veins ...just let them know you need a pro

Heh. My left has very thin vessels while right is normal, yet they always try on left first.

Hmm may be source of my fear.

I'm to young to give, but once I get old enough, you can bet I will.
