Start11 Icons missing

Start11 Version 2.08:
A few of the pinned programs lost their icons (about 30% or 15 tiles). The tiles are empty. If i distach the programs and reattach the according exe-files or the program icon from the start menu program listing, the icons are still missing.
If i click the tiles i get an error.
For example for the program "Signal" it shows
"shell:AppsFolder\org.whispersystems.signal-desktop" could not be found...."
It seems something with the path could be wrong and cannot be corrected.

The programs can be started by the exe. or the icons in the start menu program listing.

I don't know how to resolve this issue.

Thanks for any help.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Might be corrupted setting. Do you have any saved backup settings. If you do, please load it and see that resolved your issue. If not, try recreate those lost pinned item and see if the recreated pinned item work. If it does, just remove the lost one and replace it with the recreated one. Make sure to backup your setting once you get all those missing icons recreated.

Hello
I have no backup.
If i distach the programs and reattach the according exe-files or the program icon from the start menu program listing, the icons are still missing.
The Programs ar not startable either.

So it seems quite impossible to fix the situation manually.

Do i need to configure everything from zero?

Nothing much can be done if the setting was corrupted. To be sure, you can try this, uninstall Start11, keep setting, reboot immediately after uninstall finished. Re-download latest Start11 version from your product account page, install it, reboot again. This will ensure you have a good Start11. But if it still load without those missing icons/tiles. That show something wrong with the setting. And, unless you have backup saved somewhere, nothing much can be done except to manually recreate those missing icons/tiles.

Uninstall Start11, REBOOT and reinstall.

I suspect some files were not updated correctly.

I uninstalled Start11.
I deleted the two found Start11 folders.
I rebooted the PC.
All programs are starteable from the standard Windows 11 Start Menu.
I reinstalled Start11.
Programs are starteabel from the programs listing within Start11.
I pin programs to Start11 from the program listing.
The programs are not starteable from the pinned tiles. Icons are missing.

What else can do? I mean cleaner than a clean install is hardly possible, isn't it.

May I know how you actually pin the application to Start11 start menu? What I usually do is, go to all application listing on the Start menu. Browse through the list to the application you want to pin. Right click on it and select Pin to Start11. Something like my screenshot below.

"shell:AppsFolder\org.whispersystems.signal-desktop"
End of quote

Where is this located? Is it on a local drive or a network drive?

Also, what is your Windows full version XXXXX.XXXX? And what style are you using?

I pin usually identical like in Reply #6.
In rare cases of portable apps i pin the exe directly.

All programs are located on the same local drive containing the OS (default setup paths).
In the particular case of "Signal" the Path is "C:\Users\GLOSSY-USER\AppData\Local\Programs\signal-desktop"

I use the Windows10 style.

The OS Build is 22631.3737

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

I did the purge and reinstall steps as described. I run the batch as Administrator and rebooted and reinstalled Start11.
Still the same situation.
Even some programs in the "all application listing" don't have icons and cannot be started. Same Error than the pinned ones.
I.e. "Explorer" and "Faststone Image Viewer" beside "Signal" and many others.
All those programs can be started from the Standard Windows 11 Start menu when Start11 is uninstralled.
I also tried the older version 2.06. same there.

I must confess i wasn't so patient.

Well, i'm back again...

I restored an disk imgage from April 2.
The Windows Updater listed the following updates to do.
The names are in german, but the KB number should help.
I rebooted in between:

First Updates:

Windows-Tool zum Entfernen bosartiger Software x64 -
v5.125 (KB890830)

2024-05 Kumulatives Update für .NET Framework 3.5
und 4.8.1 für Windows 11, version 23H2 für x64
(KB5037591)

Intel - SoftwareComponent - 1.71.99.0

Update für Microsoft Defender Antivirus
Antischadsoftwareplattform - KB4052623 (Version
4.18.24050.7) - Aktueller Kanal (Allgemein)

>>> Reboot
>>> Start11 works fine.
>>> Next updates:

HP Inc. - SoftwareComponent - 1.66.3762.0

HP Inc. - SoftwareComponent - 4.2.2101.0

2024-06 Kumulatives Update für Windows 11 Version
23H2 für x64-basierte Systeme (KB5039212)

>>> Reboot
>>> Start 11 shows the mess i described.

HP Inc. - Firmware - 15.14.0.0

____________________________________________________________________

It seems to me KB5039212 causes the mess. Probably the HP updates, whatever those are? I don't know.
I hope that helps.

I forgeot to mention, i updated Start11 to 2.08 and rebooted before letting the Windows updates happen.

Quoting andrebiedermann, reply 13

HP Inc. - SoftwareComponent - 1.66.3762.0

HP Inc. - SoftwareComponent - 4.2.2101.0
End of andrebiedermann's quote

Could you possibly roll back/uninstall these two HP updates? And check if the issue gone?

Thank you,

Those are listed under the driver section of the windows update history, but i don't know how to rollback those.
I found nothing about those through google.
Could be anything in the device manager.
I found the versions in the registry, but that did't reveal anything.

Sorry.

If i click "further information" in the update history, both lead just here.

I could uninstall the KB5039212 and after a reboot the mess is still there.
So mabe there is a relation to those HP drivers.
But i cannot help with that really.

The missing Icons are just  side effect. I cannot start the programs either as described already.

This is not the easiest chore but if you have Win 11 Pro and open a 'Windows Sanbox' on it, install Start11 v2.08, can you reproduce the issue?

If you can, keep the conditions for producing the issue intact and export your Start11 setting (About tab) and upload them to a shared drive of your choice (OneDrive, DropBox, etc) and reply with a share link to it.

Please also include a screenshot of the results of running a winver.exe, for example:
