Dont tell me you ever did China.

Ahhhh, the things you learn from these so call 'Elders of the Computer Industry' and as such, they cant get a simple application program to run smootly in their PCs.
*sniff, sniff* I smell something fishy around here.... maybe is that litlle fish in the little pond that gets lost in the ocean

Actually I remember the boot swapper program ask I would allow it to become the boot file manager or something.

I don't know what program you're using, but BootSkin doesn't ask any such thing............

Randy, what's the bet our resident genius is using the hacked ntoskrnl proggy.

Bloody figures....and if that's the case he's picked a really bad day to get up my nose.

Double-click the files you downloaded or Import the files, using the Bootskin program

The reason you cannot see them in the list is because the program dows not actually use the .bootskin file, you import as above, and it is auto-unzipped into the correct place

I do'nt know where to unzip files to. I tried unzipping them to bootskin folder, & using the import but import does not reconize the zip folders that boot screens are in.
you need the bootskin program first. but then there is no need to unzip them as if you double click a downloaded bootskin they install by themselves.

I think your problem is that you do not have the bootskin proggy.

Or are you trying to import a file downloaded from elsewhere (a ntoskrnl perhaps), if not then please tell me which file you cannot import, and I will help you as best I can

on my computer it says that it is not a bitmap file and paint cant read this file i dont know how to resolve this problem i need ur help THANKS
Reply #42 Top
The file you have is probably a .bootskin file, this is actually a .zip file renamed and will not directly load into a paint program, is is used solely for the Bootskin program, and can only be imported into that program.

Get it here >> http://storage.stardock.com/files/bootskin_free.exe

You can if you wish, unzip with another program, but once imported into the Bootskin program it will be automatically unzipped and placed in the correct place on your hard drive, from this place you can examine the bitmaps (graphic pictures) and the .ini files, that are used to make up the boot screen

If the above post is not the case then send me the file and I will look at it, and hopefully to find the problem (if you can zip the file beforehand) then let you know how to solve the problem

GALLOIS,
The Computer City boot skin wasn't made at the correct bit depth. You see the default because the boot skin program will drop off to the default if it can't display the boot skin correctly. Nothing is wrong on your end. Just delete the Computer City boot skin until the author fixes it.

Cheers

I've created some bootskins with Paint Shop Pro by editing the default Boot bmp. I've read somewhere that only 16 colors are available and must be in 4 bit. I can't see where or how I can change my bmp to work. They display a fuzzy orangy and black bmp on boot-up. How can I change the color thing to work properly?

Colours (menu) - Reduce Colours - 16 Colours 4 Bit thgen save as normal .BMP file

Hmmm, I hate to re-open the "BootSkin stops a computer hibernating properly" issue as it got a bit unpleasant there, but...Recently, this laptop has been failing to hibernate properly, and having read this thread it probably coincides with installing Bootskin. I'm just about to turn off BootSkin, re-boot and then try hibernating, and if it works then I would have to conclude that there IS an issue...regardless of how unexpected and unpredicatable that might be...I'll get back to this thread in about 10 mins after the test...
