hello! I have 2 problems, please help
I have a windowblinds 4 free version. Everything was ok for 2 months. now, i set the skin , but when next time I restart my computer, the skin is not set/it is not shown and i see classic windows view. please help what do i do , where is the software or update to fix the problem? Another problem is - Now, it does download like it used to but, but the new skins are not installed in window blinds. please help.

Love bootskin!!

The animated bar in the Garfield bootskin goes crazy when animating. It doesn't do this on most others I have. Does that graphic have to be a specific size to keep it from doing that?

Did you download the bootskin program also or just a bootskin? You need the program (check the link in the first post above) to use any of the bootskins provided on this site.

Boot skin program does not seem to support hibernation in XP. The gruesome story lies in another thread which in incorrectly titled blaming Logon Studio for the glitch.

Bootskin does not work in the way most people think, it works by redirecting a variable so that it actually looks elswhere for the graphics for a boot screen, in other words it's doing the following:-

MS say to look in a particular place for the graphics, whereas bootskin says to look elsewhere, thas all it does, nothing more.

There are no files changed only 1 single variable, so it is not at all possible for Bootskin to interfere with the normal running of a computer. As has been said in a previous post, the battery may need changing, take it to a shop and have them change it for you, if you do not wish to change it yourself

And that nasty battery only fails every time I install a boot pic, and then reboot, just to mess with my head. Something is happening in the start process that is bogus. If it were a bios problem aka battery, then how was it able to recover using the checkpoint restore facility in XP? No, there is more here than the eye can see, and it won't be the first or last time something simple has become a real humbling nightmare.

How many people do you know who hibernate? I'm still waiting for summer.

Actually I remember the boot swapper program ask I would allow it to become the boot file manager or something. When the system reboots perhaps Windows is set to try for another boot at any opportunity and the closing of the laptop lid is as good as any. It was all so easy in 95. Maybe Bill realized he was losing a lot of free advertising.

That is simply arrogant. Few people on the planet have cut as much code as I have in almost forty years in the computer industry sweatshops all over the world. I'm not some idiot who is going to give up when one expert tells him to disengage the battery for thirty seconds to reset the bios, while another having misunderstood the advice, now is the instant expert trying to tell me I have a faulty battery that needs to be replaced. I don't think such a person can even conceieve of the many ways such a simple program and method could screw up while attempting to hack into a giant monster like XP.

I only responded to this thread out of professional courtesy knowing that developers don't like having loose edges around their creations. I won't be using the Boot thing until someone tells me he has found the bug, and describes how it manifests, what correction was done and how it was tested. Gone are the days of having your 31.95 windows crash with shareware and freeware every day. Life is too important. I certainly don't get any warm fuzzies from arrogant instant experts. The real experts are very humble, knowing the machine can bring an arrogant mind to its knees anytime it wants. Murphy is their leader.

The faulty battery one was right up there with all the newbies in the sixties who would at least once exclaim: "The bug must be in the Operating System or the compiler; I tested my program completely and can't find anything wrong". Frankly I'd be surprised if any testing was done at all on the laptop hibernation scenario, since it is a relatively new innovation.

Certainly you realize the odds when you run a program a dozen times and each time it leaves your system in agony. Then as soon as you stop running it, that very moment, the system never even hiccups for another thirty boots and hibernations. Sure it may be Murphy screwing with my mind one last time, but the likelihood is so tiny that even he would not stoop so low.

I can break this laptop any time I want, simply by running that program. I have done it a dozen times, and as long as that program is not executed, then all is fine; reboot, hibernate, everything is fine. Same battery.

I am not ready for some kid to tell me I must need a new battery, having not seen what I have seen. It is simply arrogance to write as though you are sure when you have no information about all the testing that has been done by a seasoned computer scientist to isolate the bug. It is far beyond chance. Aren't you the guy who said it needs a new battery, and this based on the naive misunderstanding of Wombat's recommendation (which had absolutely nothing to do with faulty batteries by the way).

A poseur with a position administrating a web discussion board should know his limits and not get all puffed-up thinking he is an instant expert, somehow authorized to hand out nonsense advice indiscriminately. It is simply offensive. Then talking down to his seniors as though they are idiots only documents his delusions of grandeur and lack of experience and professionalism.

I am NOT someone who suggested you need to change your battery, nor am I talking down to my 'seniors'.

Arrogance is your custom, it seems, claiming you have a wealth of experience with computers....surely you can solve your problem unaided then.

Had you taken the time to become acquainted with this site and its members and the products and programs they deal with on a daily basis you 'may' have formed a more cogent and coherent understanding of all that befalls you.

I stated two clear and precise facts.

1. the author of this thread wrote the program which you fail to have managed on your machine [you know.....a suggestion as to a source of assistance were you not such an arse as to realise it]

and

2. to date, [just a few months that the proggy has been public], you are the only person who has come forward with this specific issue.

BTW...my first messing with computers was with those stupid punch cards in 1969.......around 4th form [secondary school]....at that time there were only a handfull of computers in the country so it was off-peak coding at the Melbourne University's System.
