50 mb limit!?!?! when did they sneek that in

The limit is there to stop people who don't contribute anything to the site from leeching.

Fuzzy, what are you telling me? Can you download stuff from here without contributing?? seriously? Damnit, I think I will stop, hope the rest of you will do too... then we can all download stuff for free, without contributing.... that is, if there will be something left...

Ami-One, making a new account wont work. You can purchase a stardock product or subscibe to wincustomize and then you will get unlimited

50 megs is more than enough for someone to decide if they find value in access the libraries. $20.00 for two a year Subscription which removes all download limits is more than a value to those who wish unlimited access.

As far as it being "Just to get some Icons" that statement alone says it isn't JUST some icons, You find a value in being able to download and make use them.

Mark, seriously speaking... The site can not continue without contributions on a subscription basis because of the size of it. People have to either be a part of the whole, and contribute in some fashion, create skins, walls, icons, themes, help others on the message board, and various other thing or they have to subscribe. One has to help keep it alive by giving something back or all they are doing is taking from it. Nothing can continue to exist without help of some shape or form...

Not to bash anyone....but whether you contribute on the scale of Adni18 or you are a great supporter like WOM who contributes in his special way without posting any "work" doesn't really matter. The perk of unlimited downloads should be because you are supporting WC. I alone have downloaded over 300 megs But it's cuz I'm giving back to the one place that brings together a community of artists and supporters so we can enjoy our computers more (spoiling them really)

Hum, Ami-One, I just looked at your profile to see how many skins of yours you've shared with us.  Strangely, I found none. That is odd. Surely you are not complaning that you cannot continue to download forever without even giving anything at all back?

I do not think that the 50 mb limit is unreasonable for those who do not contribute anything to the site. I joined Wincustomize because my artistic ability is so poor I can not even draw a stick man decently! I felt that it was my way of contributing to keep the site open for the many "artists" out there who make my day with their creations. They are the real reason this site exists! It is only fitting that those, like me, subscribe to keep this site up.

I actually haven't done anything yet with the site except put up a cheesy place holder image with my name How sad.

mmm, I'll email you in a bit and see what I might be able to help with.
I'll also take sometime tonight and see about putting together a couple of
possible layouts for you to get a look at. I actually had an idea hit me
while looking at my watch last night which I think would go well with your

IP ... it would be a mass of icons a few years ago, but with an 'average' package of between 2 or 3 Mb these days it's not that big.
I know the trend is for all sizes and formats but they have blown out.
Even the Sysmetric skin sets are up around 1 Mb in some instances ....
Just an observation.

it was 50mb over the last year or so, must have just run out today when i was downloading an icon set , i got n-z and e-m but couldnt get a-g till now. I understand you cant give unlimited bandwidth for free and i dont mind a renewable limit, but a one off 50m limit is really annoying. Anyway i have a new account now so lets hope icon packs get smaller

Am10n3 ....leeching off others who pay for the bandwidth is both inconsiderate and antisocial.

The limit is in place to 'prompt' a reasonable, fair response from those who may be a little reluctant to do the right thing.

1, why draw undue attention to ones self.

2. it is better to be thought a fool, than to open thy mouth and remove all doubt.

I don't know if I would count one multiple accounts, especially when you draw attention to them...

Yes...it's a website....which is partly paid for by decent, respectable people who have sufficient moral backbone to be willing to support that which they enjoy.

To have their enjoyment lessened by those who add to the bandwidth load without reasonable contribution of any sort what-so-ever is not what this website is about.

It was determined that 50meg was more than sufficient for the casual browser...and anyone wishing to go much beyond that clearly has an interest in the site's content and should assist in its community and not be antagonistic towards it.

No '[/sarcasm]' here....just blunt reality.

if you want some, you gotta give some. i am surprised that the limit is 50. thats way too much. i just started contributing but i know that i downloaded alot of things already, heck, if i had a credit card, i would buy the subscription.
