I never even knew this limit existed.. honestly i dont think it promotes people to buy anything, people just get fed up and annoyed and move to free sites such as deviant art etc. Saying that, yes i also just reached this limit, and im not so happy. I wish there was a way to fix this, especially if you have been a member for a while. I dont know my numbers etc, but i have been coming here for a long time.. i wouldnt say i leeched anything.. as i cant skin, and have little desire to purchase a suit which si available free from stardock.. oh well, just thought i would say my peace...

ad3x...what programs are you downloading skins for?

If you have legitimate [purchased] copies of the software there won't be a 'limit'.

Of course if it's 'just' wallpapers there's thousands of wall sites out there to choose from.

BTW....Deviantart.com is not exactly 'free' either.  They, too, need financial assistance...

better idea. use netscape with an anonymous proxy and change it whenever i go past the limit. problem solved... i just will hafta sign up for a new account or simply not use one.


Vanilla Ice....just curious if you are of the same mindset when it comes to the software at http://www.bashsoftware.tk/? That a better idea, instead of buying that software would be to circumvent the controls that the software has in place to avoid paying for it?

Hmm.. I seem to be questioning the actions of the Admins a lot today - sorry.

But.. a user brags about how he'll get around a site limit, and is then rewarded with free downloads for his good works. Seems odd to me.

It is when the Rectal Nerve crosses wires with the Optical Nerve and gives one a crappy outlook.

Happens to most at some point in time for various reasons, given a bit of time the short generally
corrects itself and the affects dissipate clearing the vision.

Ahh, understood. I often suffer from that, and the unwanted knack of getting people's backs up. It's difficult when you first walk into a cliquey environment and have ideas that don't fit in. Especially when you have a big gob and fingers with a lot of time on their hands (great metaphor).

Jafo: im downloading skins for windowblinds. free version. I do understand a limit, just so people dont go hog wild downloading skins and such, destroying your server.. but I think that more of a running limit should be imposed.. like only 10 megs a month or maybe even less 5 megs.. but dont cap out, just keep a constant 5 megs a month limit. that way you give people enough of a reason to get wincustomize, but let people who prob wouldnt utilize wincustomizes offerings if rhey just dl every now and then.. just an opinion i guess. You all obviously have a right to do anything you want. It just sucks when you cant download skins! hah Once im out of college and get actual income i think i may eventually start purchasing stuff such as this.

ad3x - there is no free version of WB there is a limited time trial version that is free to download. So why would someone need to be able to download WB skins beyond the end of the time trial?

Hmn, it's been a long while since I've run the shareware WB, but my understanding was that some features were time limited not the software itself. Just to give a taste of what the enhanced version is like but not to completely prevent futher use of the shareware WB.

OK, so what if we the skinners decide to cap our work to maybe 2 skins a year? Will that be ok with the people that want to download with out any sort of contribution back to the site?
Trial versions and caps on download amount were made for the sole purpose of giving the users a sample of what is available. Once you try it you can make a decision. If you like the product then it's only fair that you purchase it, if you feel that the product does not satisfy your needs, then you can always uninstall/delete what you have download and no harm done.
If you dont have the available funds to purchase a product, you can always try to contribute via uploading skins and that will eventually remove the cap limit of downloads and we can all be a big happy family.

but you're not buying anything. if you're annoyed and fed up that you can't freeload anymore, please feel free to move on. I can't imagine why anyone here would miss you.

We get this nonsense too often and I'm feeling more than a tad grumpy this evening. I remember a discussion in December regarding severly limiting the downloads of these sort of people. Can't start soon enough. >

its kind of funny though, because even though i may be a "non contributing member" i still was a member way before any of you. Whether or not that means anything is still up for debate but 200,000 people cant be wrong eh. As for buying either wb or dx i am pretty much undecided, as stylexp and samurize both seem to quell my neeeds, though i do fluctuate on my useage of both. Now as for those flaming me, I never groaned and whined about the limit, i just was looking for an explaination, because i was hit with this limit out of the blue. technically i had dled 79 megs.. which seems odd that they limit useage to 50 yet i got an extra 29 megs out of it. but se la vie. So no i wasnt giving pointless posts as you may have assumed. In fact not only did i search for this topic.. i also agreed with thier views. please get a clue before trying to flame anyone.

i wasnt flaming any one but the three people who were going all out at me. Jesus people. As for everyone else; yet again, thanks for being assholes i made a comment and a request, only to have people call me names and tell me to just leave. what kind of community is this, obviously not a supportive one. Honestly this community needs a lot of work. why the hell would anyone buy a subscription if NOT ONE PERSON tries to convince me to buy the subscription.. but rather EVERYONE (or at least 98%) turn into wolves and just attack me. Just a question you people should think about. Maybe this question will eventually lead you guys to become a little more friendly, and possibly have a more lucrative business. I guess thats all i have to say.
