I dont understand what he said...he's leaving because 2 or 3 comments were about the skin's incompleteness? What about the 32 other comments all telling him how great the skin is and how talented of a skinner he is. I personally think it's an excellent skin, complete or not. I'm still confusded about the whole thing...

Leo....much as we won't want him to leave, it's his decision to do so....though not being a German speaker I have no idea why he wants to.

Many people will come and go....it's a fact of life.....and not a one-way exodus, but simple transience...things change, people come and go...and come again.

What rankles is the opinion of 'some' that it's all down to how this site is handled....and one in particular should be ashamed of himself for fostering such.  He knows exactly where the fault lies.

Anyway...

If mangASS is concerned about his work's ratings and that's the reason for his desire to leave, I checked the ones on that linked work and they are all entirely valid and responsible and not one is an abuse of the system....

I must admit that I too am comfused by his decision, even bad comments are a good thing - they help us to improve upon our own work. One should never give into dispare by unwelcome criticism! I have seen the skin and personaly feel that the skin should have at least been rated at 9. It shows tremendous originality and style! If this person wishes to leave then so be it, but when an artist joins are ranks we are enlighted and when one is lost we are diminished! I truly hope that this artist changes his mind and stays.

I was shocked when I read that also, but I don't think we can do anything about changing his decision. This is natural in a great skinner's life, they have to leave sometiom sooner or later. As much as we all will miss him, we can alwayz remember him by complimenng him before he leaves.

Just to clarify....I located 34 WB skins....the earliest was April 2001....so our friend mangASS has been around a long time [the earlier works were with Builderblinds - some of you may not recall that, but it was pre-SkinStudio].

Heck...I wish my WB skins were half as good as his earliest ones are....

It's definely a well-done skin. I wonder why those 2 complained.

I know who - and exactly what you mean in your third paragraph. I have learnt to respect and cherish the ideals and standards of Wincustomize and i would go out of my way to move heaven and earth to see that they were maintained. It is the only way and the success of this site vindicates all the work that you and many others have put in here over a period of years and the likes of myself and several thousands of members owe you and a few others a great deal of thanks because without these standards and ideals Wincustomize would not exist. If this area is the main "gripe" of this artist then so be it and good luck to him if he goes elsewhere but i think there is more to it than this and i started this thread to get people to look at the skin and to judge him purely as an artist and forget about all the other crap and "politics". Compliments from other memebers on the skin mean more to most artists than anything else and hopefully he will realise now how highly his work is regarded.

I guess skinners do come and go but i hate to see people "cut off their noses to spite their face" as we say over here. That is just me i guess.

Besides, if a person lets others comment run them off they do nothing but give into them and THAT alone would be something I would refuse to do, personally.

I'm with I.R. Brainiac's second comment: why upload an unfinished skin? Or should I say 'test' skin. I'm sure as hell not downloading it...with the possibility of screwing my pc up. Although I might not of used the same words, Bender50 and f0r3 are on point. Additionally, a 'test' skin checking out the new features of skinstudio with no intention of future updates. So we are the guinea pigs? As much as he is a potential skinner, if he is leaving because of those responses then so be it. I mean, he's not a newb round here either.

Um.... I was taking it to mean, he was testing the market.... us, to see how receptive we would be to his style of skinning after all this time and after all the changes to WB that he is new at now. Like someone, gone for a long time, testing the waters to see how well he can still swim. Like wondering if the magic is still there....

I guess I should go take a look.

But, Whomever it is, if you read this... Don't go anywhere because you belong just as much as anyone else. It isn't the people you do not reach that matter, it's their loss, not yours. If you do leave then it is our loss also

I hope I didnt upset him,I was only encouraging him to tweak it a little.Its a fantastic skin.If it were just some middle of the road plain jane skin,no one would care.It appeared to be 95 % complete,I hope he DOES add a little more,he's a terrific skinner.

You make a good point goodmorphing that I may have overlooked. It is still unclear. It really is a nice skin nonetheless.

Perhaps I missed something but I don't see what there was to be so seemingly upset about. And I'm probably obtuse but I don't even see what's "unfinished" about the skin. Maybe stuff I just don't notice? I'm using it now with WB 4.1 released version (not beta 4.2).

With all due respect...I like the skin, and I do have some of his older skins, and they are quite good.
But, I'm not going to go post comments begging him to stay if he's going to blow up and leave like that over what looks to me like constructive criticism, with *one* comment that's just rude and not constructive. Could have just asked an admin to delete the rude comment instead of leaving the site.


I've seen soooo many skinners here who respond beautifully to constructive criticism....rushing out updates or making improvements to satisfy requests, working with people via email, etc, over problems with a skin, making new/different versions at request...all for free. It's great to see and just another great part of the community here. Sorry if that's cheesy but it's from the heart.

Don't forget the language issue. English is not the guy's first language. Maybe by "testing" he meant that, since he hadn't skinned Windowblinds for a while, he wanted to try it out again and see how much things have evolved since then. The results ended up good enough to be uploaded, but he is nevertheless not interested - for a reason or another and that's his own prerogative - in updating it.
Maybe also the language issue had him interpret the comment more offensively than it was meant to be.

ok, so if I am to understand it you are not suppossed to post a skin that does not have the new WB 4 features?

I think his skin deserved a 9 because it wsa well done. Not every skin is going to have shell styles in them.

His 'test' skin is of great quality and better then some 'full' skins. So I can only guess he took great offense to the comments of missing parts.


That is my take on it.
