It would be much easier with the full version of SkinStudio...It comes with Object Desktop if you have it

You can recolor entire Icon Packages in just a minute or so

Or you could use Axialis Icon Workshop http://www.axialis.com/iconworkshop/index.html to open your .ico file and export as a .psd file, then make your hue adjustments. Save as a .png and open with Icon Workshop then save as an icon

Which skin are you trying to match? Do you just want to recolor 1 icon?

Do you have the full version of SkinStudio? If so that would be the quickest.

Otherwise, I would use the method I explained up above. As far as I know Photoshop doesn't support importing .ico files, I am still using 6.0 so that may have changed I dunno.

You could try the Icon Developer Mormegil mentioned...Looks similar to the function in SkinStudio but a few more options

I don't blame ya for wanting to do it yourself...I would too

In Photoshop select "Image" on the tool bar at top, then pick "Adjustments" and then "Channel Mixer" and you can also try it with "Selective Color" to change specific colors and such that make up the visual color you see on the icon. You can also do it by Hue and Saturation adjustment or Brightness and Contrast. But Selective Color would probably be the best one to use so it does not mess with any of the effects used in creating the Icon.

anyway, SkinStudio as has been suggested would be a good choice and also Axialis is a damn good program without a doubt.
