Stardock support for releasing on Epic

I cant believe people are complaining and hating about where the game is released. Muppets.

Just to balance things out a bit I want to show my support to Stardock regarding their decision to release the game on Epic.

I do not know how many times I have purchased SOASE plus all the DLC's.

I have been playing since its release, lent the cd's out and not got them back, had hdd's break on me. I guess I must have purchased it all 4 or 5 times at least.

Eventually bought it all on steam.

I am still playing it to this very day, I have no idea how many thousands of hours I have spent playing this game. My steam account has nearly 800 hours and is only two or three years old.

My favourite match, a friend and I started on a friday afternoon, and we kept playing till the map was won about 27 hours later, it was such a good match we couldn't stop till it was done.

I have wanted sins 2 for years, and I am so greatful that I do not care where it is released.

If it takes a deal with Epic in order to get it made then that's what it takes and I for one am happy.

I pre-purchased it, the day it was released.

Thanks Stardock for making such an Epic game, yes pun intended, it has helped me have many amazing hours with one particular friend who introduced me, and it has created many more over the years, especially helping me through dark times when the puzzle of completing maps on my own took my mind off IRL problems.

I would buy this game if I had to have it delivered by carrier pigeon.

I feel the same way. After playing this game all these years, from playing the box release on my old XP desktop in 2008 until these recent years playing modded rebellion, I am thrilled this is happening at all. I imagine this will be the only game I'll purchase on Epic, unless a Sins 3 ever arrives.

Once a Steam version is available, I may pick it up on that platform on sale if only to uninstall a game launcher.

Some people would probably like that if that meant getting a box with cover art like how we used to purchase games decades ago. Only problem is that many people no longer have CD or DVD drives in their computers; it would need to come on a USB stick.

It should already tell you everything you need to know that your epic apologist thread remains devoid of supporters.

This is a blatantly anti consumer move, as is everything Epic has done with their store since launch.

A real shame because I was hyped as soon as I heard about SoaSE2 being announced.

With all the recent great space strategy games released and more ready for next year (falling frontier looking hype), guess I'll wait to pick this one up from steam's bargain bin sales a few years from now.

Yeah, saaaaame here. Do I like EGS? No. But, as much as I love SoaSE, it's a niche game and that's hard to publish - even for a publisher like Stardock.

Epic throws money at people to put in on their platform, massively de-risking a venture like SoaSE. Plus, we will get a Steam release eventually - one thing EGS is actually good for is Early Access: it worked well for Hades. EGS acts as source of funding and building a small early access community, releasing on Steam opens the floodgates. Same for Satisfactory. Just hope Stardock understands the dynamic and remembers it for PR and marketing pushes - EGS is the kiddie pool, Steam is the ocean.

Either way, I know I'll buy it on some platform, sooner or later - and I'm excited for it.

Not to say I support the move, but I don't care either way. It just doesn't affect me, as much as people say Epic is owned by China, everyone's data is out there on the internet already. I'm also old enough to remember Steam's exclusivity deals (Rebellion? The irony). The devs making some more guaranteed cash is something we would all do given the chance. And, given my experience with console exclusivity, I'm just glad I don't need to buy a whole new device just for a game, but just download a launcher.

Just once I'd like to hear honesty from a developer: "They gave us a butt-load of money to only support them"

I'd even be fine with them releasing it sans-launcher altogether. But I'm content just plain not buying from developers who make decisions like this with their products.

It's really sad when you feel you have to come out and defend a company for making a business decision. You're not an employee, so all you're doing is free community management and public relations.

I don't blame them for taking Epic's money to make the game. Businesses will do what they have to do. But they also need to be prepared for the fallout that is associated with a decision.

Having it as an Early Access title on Epic is a risky move, though. Epic is unpopular for a reason, and it'll be difficult to attract hardcore Sins fans if they dislike Epic. I love Sins and wont give Tim Sweeney a single cent, regardless of the consequences for titles I enjoy.

I didn't make this thread for internet points or good conversation. I said my piece, I didn't ask for responses, but others have commented with some genuine feelings and reasons and it was interesting reading them.

You on the other hand are one of the reasons I made this thread.

I am not a fan of Epic, I have one free game and now I have Sins 2.

All this means I now have another launcher. Big deal, I don't even need to have it on my desktop, unless I want to.

I would imagine it takes a lot of organising and money to get a niche game made, if Epic are willing to provide that funding for exclusivity for the first year, when most of the bugs are being worked out, then fair play, most of the uneducated muppets bitching and moaning would sell out for a lot less money.
