Fences 4.07.02 Release Feedback Thead

With the Fences 4.07.02 release, we are creating this thread so that users can report any observed issues.

Reporting an issue

Please include the following for anything found:

  • Exact Windows version \ build (winver.exe)
  • Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen
  • Screenshots and videos are very helpful.  Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive services (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube) and links included in your post.  Images can be directly added.
  • If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions.  If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.

Hi,

Finally found out that Fences was the culprit in my freezing taskbar. It is only an issue with a specific app: Studio One (both V5 and V6) and ONLY happening during export of large files. I've now uninstalled Fences and my issues are completely gone. 

- Windows version: 22000.1219
- Steps to recreate: Make a project in Studio One and export it. During the rendering process the taskbar
'freezes' meaning: icons won't correlate to where they are (they are stuck and new ones don't show up) and give no interaction, clock freezes and is stuck. Solution is to force quit explorer.exe through task manager, which reboots explorer.exe and fixes the issues.

After win 10 update 2022/11/12 my start menu icons are grayed out and dont work. I can not move them around either.

Microsoft states it desktop managers that cause this.

What say you Stardock?

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more on your issue.

  1. Windows 11 full version number. Please use Winver.exe to get it.
  2. Have you try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Hello, I really love this app, for those who put all their stuff on desktop, it helps me organize everything.
i would like to suggest a few features to spice up this app:

COSMETIC improvement

1. Able to change the text color of the Fence Title individually, this is for those who wanna color unite certain stuff together
(currently we can only customize the Fence Box color.)

2. Speaking about Box color, please allow us to copy the color from other boxes. 

3. Divider or separator inside the box

4. Fence Title Alignment options. it would be great if we could align the text left and right too.

5. Fence Roll Up direction options. it would be great if we could choose which direction it will roll up-- I'm not sure about the rolling side way but being able to choose would allow the boxes don't overlap each other when they roll up.

6. Folders or files don't auto-sort next to each other inside the fence. It would be great to be able to move the folder to a certain position inside the fence (floating), instead of all the folders being set next to each other. of course, maintain the grid and snapping so its still neat. this is to help certain people who are used to position memory thingy, how they remember things based on the location of the item.

I just reinstalled Fences4 and this time there are no issues (knock on wood). Maybe one of the three apps was updated and fixed a compatibility issue. I am now running Fences4, Start11, and WindowBlinds11 with no issues. :congrat:  5*

New Fences 4 upgrade purchase & install on new laptop running Windows 10 Pro.  Cannot Configure Fences, cannot access Fences Settings, cannot create new Fences.  First time I've ever run into this problem, across multiple machines and years of use.

Today, as far as I can see there are two ways to lock/unlock Fences. One from clicking on any Fence menu, and then View, and one from right click and view on the desktop. I think that it would be easier to find and solve issues for many users if that option was included somewhere in the configuration pages of Fences itself.

Hello all. am having trouble with fences 4 on a clean windows 10 (22H2) install

Install seems to worc correctly   .  but..

seem to be unable to enable fences when i right-click on the desktop. and the enable fences checkbox is already ticked when i open the fences settings

Can you ensure that Fences is not locked by right clicking on your desktop and uncheck this and see if you can create new fences:

None of those options are even available
