Hmmm, the big question here is, did you fech with it? ;P

Seriously, though, I hope that you get to the bottom of it.  My main machine, the Threadripper build, posted a few times but suddenly gave up the ghost.  Turns out the 1200w PSU was shooting out 18 to 20 volts at startup on the 12 volt rail, thus shorting out the mobo, etc.

I now have a Core i7 10th gen on an ASUS 1200LGA board in the Cosmos II case, but it wouldn't post to begin with.  Turns out one of the modular cables I provided the techie for the build wasn't for the 850w PSU.  Once he removed it all was well and the machine posts/boots as it should.

Yup, computers can be the most finicky things at times, not to mention frustrating, so hopefully you track down the error soon and get the machine back on line.

Ah, so it was you who interfered with my AMD Ryzen 9 booting.  I wondered why it was alright one minute and not the next.

Nah, it was okay, just a BSOD after updating some drivers via IOBit's updater.  I had the issue before so just rolled back on the network adapter and it was fine again.

Q code error on mb is b3....or b6...

It did it itself .....had been running for weeks without issue.... i don't turn it off...hardly think playing solitaire while refreshing sites here and listening to mp3s...also always running is overtaxing it... but screen locked and audio squarked....hard reset and no post.

Meanwhile i have another x99 deluxe coming....as wanting to get same system up an running

The story so far....

I'm setting up my secondary system...ASUS R500A laptop to manage 'things' until I can wake up the monster again.

About the only saving grace is...the lappy is up-to-date system-wise....just was never used for email...so have had to recover a current pst from the dead one.

Thank God I do redundancy backups...as the OS is on a M.2 drive...so I can't access it....and the primary backups are on a 3tb platter that's not recognizing on the lappy at all...but the redundancy is on a second platter...and that one was good...so I have a pst from around 9.am friday, and the machine snuffed it at about 11.pm friday...so at worst [until the machine works again] I lost 14 hours of emails.

I have a feeling that when I do get it to post again I'll take the opportunity to drag it screaming into Windows 10 ...may as well add more pain and suffering...;)

lol!  I'd hate to be that monster or lappy that will be having more pain and suffering!!   Or were you referring to yourself? lol!

The pain and suffering will be all mine...;)

Thing is, I wasn't a fan of Win 10, either, but it has grown on me some after my Win 8.1 machine was updated to 10 by MS and I couldn't roll back.  I had heard a lot of people complaining about it and how Win 10 was so buggy, but in the last year or two I've not had any real issues with it.

One complaint I sometimes have is when opening a folder and Win 10 sits there thinking about it for a while.  Other than that it's not much different to Win 7 or 8.1.  I did, however, have issues with a couple of builds not posting or booting, largely due to PSU issues, but that's all resolved now and I'm happy.

b6 error code is a pain in the bum.  New sh mobo gives the same.

What was the fastest cpu available non server 6 years ago is probably now a dud.

So....in our nice new location of Ballarat I only have to look out the window and see a Computer shop across the road.

That's where my machine is now...as I don't have a sea of alternate components to swap in and out to narrow things down.

One issue is one of the 3TB drives shows as raw in computer management...tho chkdsk sees it as NTFS ok. Looks like the MBR might be screwed.

It's what was used as the primary backup for 'stuff' so unless the M.2 drive gets back up and running there's a fair chance I'm going to lose a lot of recent stuff as it looks like True Image hasn't been doing backups for a while either.

No wonder it wouldn't post....the CPU died....but obviously not 100% dead....just 'mostly' dead.

6 years ago it was pretty cutting edge...and $1279 AUD.

6 years later it's new on Ebay for $550 AUD.

Looks like I know what I'm doing over Xmas...;)

Glad the damage wasn't a lot worse. Have a Happy Xmas, both of you!

What d'yer reckon... maybe it would have lived longer [probably lots longer] if you'd turned the machine off when not in use and gave that poor, overworked CPU a regular rest. ;P

I knew there was a reason when my first ever techie told me to turn my PC off each night after use.... now I know why.  And funnily enough, that machine with an AMD Phenom II is still running like a champ.

Damned computers, though.  I've had my share of issues in recent times, no thanks to a dodgy PSU that effed up my Threadripper build.  I'm still waiting for the mobo to come back from MSI, not that I'll see it before Xmas.

It's not quite that cut and dried....it appears the 5960x was a bit 'iffy' from the outset and was soon replaced.  It had some overclocking potential that was 'experimental'.  At the time there wasn't a faster chip [server chips not counting].

My [new] IT guy said he's seen another of them turn up its toes in the past....and CPUs are way more reliable than they were pre i7 vintage....originally they were about a 90% fail just in cooking...and that's before they went into a MoBo...)

When the CPU decided to up and die it didn't want to go alone.  It took out one of the 2 redundancy backup drives...a 3TB one that is now about 600gig ....so it shrank in the wash...and is now 'raw'.

I can get the data off [as an exercise] but I'm sure  it was more full than that originally....just a bit 'odd'.

So far, without even accessing the primary drive [it's the M.2] I think the worst I have been affected is lost emails from 9am [last backup] to about 10pm [T.O.D.] same day....and most of those would have been seen already.

I can't stress enough how important  it is to have a backup plan...and redundancies as well.

What this has highlighted is some minor oversights on how it could be totally idiot-proof....;)

Today the I7 5960x turned up....and it's definitely new [unbroken seals].  I guess it's time to rebuild and see what happens....;)

And 5 minutes later the other delivery...a 2TB SSD to salvage what went AWOL on the platter....;)

Well....there you go.....this is the old monster up and running again....even the 3TB platter now reads....;)

All I have to do now is download 6162 emails.....there goes Tuesday...;)

I'm glad you have it running again, albeit with some replacement hardware.

Lasted a day and a bit ...I got a shit-load of backup config done....added the new HD while I was at it...then it looks like a WEI re-run snuffed the GTX980 ....screen is 'there' but full of streaks....so here I am posting on it...looking at a whole lot of lines.....

Good we could post anything and you would not know. Be careful of the doors you open!

It ain't fun when you are stuck in vga resolution. ...you see about 1/16th of the screen.

GTX980 is older than dirt... time to upgrade to something from this century.
