Honestly, I recommend having all those files in a different place and either use a Folder Portal fence, or a shortcut to a folder on the desktop.

Random 20 Second delay to open a fence after closing any program. Clean install of the OS, Windows 10 pro 64Bit 2004, Newest Fences 3, even checked for updates. This started with Windows 10 2004, Talked to 3 other users all have the same problem. Just slows down working on projects No real errors. This is a hard one to debug, It may work find for sometime and then start doing it again.

When the Delay happens I can still open the start menu and run app there.

Fence will not roll down and the Mouse pointer get stuck in the edit mode for the 20 seconds. and sometime it starts the roll down and stops about 20% in. It will finish after the delay.

Error log show nothing about Fences.

I cannot find anything running call Fences, or Stardock, yet it is running. so debugging is a bit harder.

Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit, 32Gigs RAM, GTX 750 TI, Western Digital 2TB, Asus WS C422 Pro SE, Intel Xeon Skylake E/EP 14nm 3.70Ghz ESet Anti-Virus. Office 2019, Teams, Python 3.8, Arduino IDE, Steam

I have uninstalled Fences and have no slowdowns. Cleaned the Registery removed all files even the AppData ProgramData. Cleaned the Registery again. Then reinstalled, Random delay starts again. The odd part is I have two systems running Fences, Same Windows 10 pro 64Bit 2004 on both. The other system does not do this. Both have be Rebuilt in the past year. The other System is and i7 5th Gen 3.4 GHz, 32Gigs RAM, Western Digital 6TB, GTX 1080 with no problems with Fences.

I think I'll be postponing upgrading to Win 2004. Just as an idea, are you using the same antivirus on the other 2 systems? have you tried pausing it to see if that's the problem?

How many icons are we talking about here?

Also, if you put those larger files in a folder somewhere else, somewhere in \Documents for example, and create a Fences Folder Portal to them instead, does it still happen?

Thank you for your replies,

I don’t know if this information might help, but I have 160 files on my desktop that are 500 MB in size. I copied the files to a folder and tried again, its better than before, but it did not solve my problem, and I want all my files and folders on desktop without fence portal.

because I bought fences to do the organize job (each file in it's category) not to put my folders and files into folders, I can do this without fences.

Note: I tried another software that has organize desktop files feature, and it doesn't has the delay problem, but fences have better look.

But that is not how folder portals function, they can be nearly indistinguishable from regular Fences:

Thank you for you reply, and yeah I noticed that, but I don't know why fences have organize feature if I should move my desktop files into folders then create portal for that, so we can say that Fences has a render problem if your desktop have many files and folders, and it should be fixed.

I just don't know that is indeed the issue - yours seems unique.  The solution provided might be a serviceable workaround until you can determine what is actually contributing to the delay in your case.
