Hibernate option not showing in Start10

I just purchased and installed Start10 on a laptop with the Win 10 1909 build. Start10 version is 1.8.

I went into the power options in my pc to enable the hibernate option to show on the standard Windows 10 menu. But Start10 does not reflect this change, and only shows restart, sleep, etc. If I change the setting in Windows to show sleep (or not), that is reflected in Start10, but the setting to display the hibernate option is not reflected in Start10.

Thank you for the report.  The issue has been located and I will push for an update to be released ASAP for this.

Yes, same issue here. It was OK in previous Start10 release (1.75 I think) so it must be a bug in 1.8. Even though Hibernate can be configured as primary power button's action in Start10's settings, power button is displayed as Shutdown and Hibernate is not visible even if right arrow is clicked.

Hibernate is of course globally enabled, visible in Windows 10's native start menu and on the lock screen power button action.

Hello,

A fixed 1.8 version has been posted:

Account holders:

https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products

Guest Checkout:

https://www.stardock.com/support/productkeyretrieval

You will need to get it from there as the version has not changed so the app will not auto update.

Thanks for letting us know about the update. I've downloaded it from My Account and installed it (without uninstalling first) but the Hibernate issue is still there. Other options seem to be OK like Sign Out or Lock but when you select Hibernate from Configure it sets it as Shut Down instead.

Should it be fully uninstalled before installing it again?

Yes, it helps sometimes. or do the purge and reinstall steps mention here : https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#reinstalling

Re-download the latest version again from your account.  Also make sure to reboot after the purge, reinstall, recommended to install in default directory, reboot again after the installation finish. Report back here.

Thanks - I'll try that later on today.

I had restarted after installing the previous update but will try the uninstalling as well

Also make sure hibernate is an enabled option in Windows.  Start10 1.75 and earlier always allowed hibernate in error.  1.8 onwards will only allow it if you have enabled it in the OS power settings.

I'm not on very often these days but a thank you to Neil Banfield for the upcoming restoration of hibernation in Start 19. I just went back to 1.75 because I use hibernation all the time. Looking forward to the update for 1.80. :-)

Thanks Neil - I double-checked the Power Options area and Hibernation was not ticked so after that was enabled this updated Start 10 is functioning as it did before with Hibernate as the default power option.

Thanks for your help

If I may add, one should also check that hiberfil.sys (hidden + system file) is present on the system drive. If not, hibernation can be activated from an admin cmd.exe, using "powercfg -h on".

BTW, on my system, after updating to version 1.8, 1.61 info is still displayed. Trying again...

Yes, second trial, version is still 1.61...

Uninstall Start10.  REBOOT, then install 1.8.  Please be sure you are using the 1.8 install exe.

BTW : it would be really nice is Start10 update could be performed without a reboot. Even when closing Explorer and the remaining Start10 task, my PC still asks for reboot after the update.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply and the instructions. Will the purge remove the license also ? I got mine in a package, Object Desktop, but maintenance has expired now and I suspect it won't activate again.

Hi, I just found out that previous updates are stored in

C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Start10\Update

I picked version 1.75, installed it over the current one and this time it displays the right version. Before installation, I have stopped all start10 tasks and service and also Explorer.exe.

After a full backup I'll try the current update, or will wait for the next one...

Regards.

Hello,

From what I understand if you still can download the updates from your account. Than your old activation keys should still work. And I do believe that the current Start10 V1.80 is the latest one which deal with the hibernate issue as mentioned by Sean in reply#6.

Thank you,

Yes, I can still download the latest version but from Start10 update menu itself. Anyway, I'll probably try again after a full image backup of my system disk, just in case... Thanks !

Thank you for making the fix.

I already had v1.8 installed, and tried running the new installer without an uninstall or purge just to see. After the install and reboot, hibernate worked again.

Not sure if this is because it was a new pc with the first Start10 version installed being 1.8 or what, but at least in my case it was not necessary to uninstall or purge.

Thanks again!
