The Community is.....us

I am feeling really inspired about some recent events on WinCustomize.

The first is the community skinning project begun by ^^Gabriel and c242. I know of several skinners that are devoting their time and effort to making this cooperative venture successful. All involved deserve to be praised.

Which brings me to the topic of people willingly contributing their time and efforts to "make things better." MadIce has spent a huge amount of time and effort to create an IRC help guide, so that chat will be less intimidating to newbies. If you visit #Wincustomize (and I encourage everyone to say "hello" at some point) you will probably be treated to seeing skinners helping others, a regular occurence. Some regulars that offer help include DaWebMassa, MadIce, PJPowell, Pas, Keila, Voodoo_Freak and many others. Of course, you will also observe the usual inane banter that makes it a fun place to be.

Deserving of special mention is the omnipresent GreenReaper. He seems to be everywhere and answering every question. It was great getting to meet you in person, GR!

Let me add that I am really inspired by the thread begun by Goodmorphing about our own KarmaGirl. She has recovered from surgery and I am sure that she will be thrilled to read the notes of concern and well-wishing.

So, what do you get when people help each other and care about each other? You get a wonderful community! Which is...us!

Well it takes the people for it to work, and the odd trouble maker thrown in just for fun

Talking about community, I haven't seen any of you three sending us your picture. Come on now, get on it!

OK, here's the deal.
The site is ready, but we want more pictures before we officially launch it. So, everybody who sends his picture will get a link to the site. When we fell we have enough, then we'll make it public to everyone.

Hey paxx you should be happy to know that I just sent in three good photos and the rest of the stuff you wanted just now.

Thank you Mr. Kuperman. I had worried about posting the thread.

Although summertime is not the best time to start a community project I think there will be some great skins when it is finished.
This is still the best place to start with something like that.

First of all, thank you Larry for the recognition to all of the regulars who are always willing to go out of thier way to help. I like helping people new to skinning because I was once new and had several people who devoted time to getting me into this community. It's my way of repaying all the effort they gave and continue to.

Larry is a great guy himself and is a blessing to this community!

Thanks to all the people he mentioned for inspiring me!

OH, and as for the insane banter... WooHoo!

Thanks Larry. If it wasn't for goodmorphing and her ideas, alterations, additions, spell checking and grammar editing it wouldn't be written at all.

I have to do this... These are the people that I am most influenced by who deserve your kudos. Without them, the community would not be the same for me. You'll have to pardon the smartass remarks added to some of them but it's a key to who they are.

Hippy: My oldest friend in the community. He is the one that pulls me out of hiding and back into skinning from time to time. Extremely talented, a REALLY funny guy but just totally WEIRD.

PJPowell: Old friend, very smart dude, great sarcastic wit but ummm, hello, dork alert!

Snowman: Old friend... funny, serious, intelligent, etc. Wouldn't be the same without him around. LOSER!

China: Old friend, seksie icon of the skinning community, tease!

HarrellJ: Old friend and huggle mistress!

Pas: I've worked with John now more than anyone else. He's a great guy, talented and very funny. Too bad he's such a bastard!

likwid: Brutally upfront, funny and very intelligent but he can be a dweeb sometimes.

Martin: This guy is very intelligent, always willing to help, has a great sense of humor but his choice of wines stinks.

Chris: Chris needs his own comedy channel... I'm serious! His timing is awesome. AND, he even seems remotely intelligent.

Others: WOM, Stumpy, Chef Gary, Keila, SHC (SuperHeroCanadian)

Stardock employees that need mention from me:

MadIce: What can I say.. without him, some things just wouldn't exist or be as good. Thank him if you see him!

Koop: Calm, cool and very funny.

SkinStudio: Extremely intelligent (obviously he wrote SKS!), professional, open to ideas and helpful.

Alberto: Same as above but for DesktopX

I know I have forgotten someone and for that I apologize. Sorry, but I think it's positive to mention the people who regularly contribute from time to time.

/me wipes a tear from his eye.

Wow. This is so touching.

I agree with all the above and would like to add that I have no idea who DaWebMassa is. I surveyed 10 people on the street and they had never heard of him. I think he's looking for attention. Don't be sucked in by his web of deceit.

* Private note to said unknown person *

Dork huh? I shall be awaiting you in IRC with an itchy foot. Consider this your warning. The kicking will be swift and out of the blue. Is the paranoia setting in yet?

* End private note to UP *

I'll just add that there are a whole bunch of Stardockers behind the scenes making things tick that don't get a mention. So just to keep the tradition up I won't mention furan, nakor, kimk, Darkstar, flyin', T-Man, bagginz, ed, dru, dhendrix, veXen, elfmaiden or any of the other stardock employees that I don't know the names of. Anyway all you people who don't read the messageboard anyway we do appreciate what you do even if we don't know what it is or who does it.

I hear there's also some strange person called frogboy that runs the show. Maybe that's just a legend though. A boy who is a frog? Preposterous!!

Well heck slide on over everyone, there is 11 of us here
Reply #21 Top
We didn't mention Pas- always ready to help; Samie (also Sammy, also....well, the list goes on) who has been a tremendous help to me. MikeB, the great and humble. Furan, the mighty. The list goes on.

I hope that some reading this will be inspired to visit the channels. See ya, there!

Yea koop I forgot MIKE! Mr. Humble himself. Sorry Mikey.

Furan... programming genious of Stardock (or so I believe) as he seems to have his hands in everything.

This wasn't a popularity contest of people on WC but to mention those that hang out in the IRC channels helping, inspiring and just being downright annoying.

Grayhaze, Dark Mist, iPlural, kona... you all obviously impact WC in a large way.

who us?

I pretty much stay away from IRC because it gets to be an obsession for me and I will spend all my time there bouncing back and forth and work suffers from it

Buuuut, once I catch up on some things here with a few upgrades at remote sites I should not have to worry about that as much and will make it a point to come in more often
