I ran 2K for two years, never once had to reinstall.
Ran XP for 6 months. Had to reinstall 3 times in the first week, and then a further 2 times since, the latest being last week.

I just reformatted last week. Cause it was really starting to be slow as hell. I had been lazy and putting it off, it was way over due, after about 18 months (should have done it 6 months ago).

It's amazing the difference it makes. My computer is probably 3 times faster now. Wheew!

Running XP Pro.

w2k, two weeks ago and can't get galciv multimedia reinstalled; 'my document' folders everywhere. Maybe I'll just get a case of cheap legacy 25 gig hard drives because "reformatting" raises some real doubts in my mind...

2 years on windows 95, but it would have been longer if I hadn't had to delete so much crap from my (3 GB) hard disk. Been running XP Home since Christmas...no problems so far.

I stayed 2 and a half years with W2K without any reformat and now around 1 and a half year with WXP with no reformats so far.GO! GO!

2 and a half years with my first PC,(Win 98.)
Then i changed to 98se, and i found out you could tweek the registry!
Now i reinstall about every 3 months!

The moral of this story is: Never mind the MATRIX, don't enter the REGISTRY!

About to do it again this weekend.
Gotta back some stuff up first.

Normally I do it once a year. But when I first got XP, being the pain in my derrier that it was, everything seemed to upset it *rolls eyes* So I must have had to do it 4 times within my first couple of months. Then after realizing--that if I simply get rid of that waste of money, Norton's utilities I'd be fine--I've had NO problems, have not 'had to' since I got rid of it.

Doing it this week just cuz, I want do some stuff differently on it, so I thought I'd start from scratch.

If you don't count upgrading to XP, 2 and a half years. It's slow but it's solid.

Me, I'm just slow!

loaded this machine with xp pro 6mo prerelease still using same install...before that win 98 3 years...you skinners working in XP all GUI changes are stored in a file , in Documents and settings , and the folder titled from your log on , called ntuser.dat ....this file gets corrupt from all the changes and yous desktop does all kinds of crazy things or just plane goes black or locks up...I use a program by Roxio called Goback , it is like system restore in XP except you can restore all the down to only one file ....i restore ntuser.dat back 1 hour and i am back in business...you can do restore in windows but you are liable to loose some of your work ....you can also create a new logon and copy all files from old logon except ntuser.dat and you are back in business note you will lose some things like your Internet favorites but you are not reformatting ...hope this may have help at least one person

Over a Year for me, XP Pro.
But, I do feel the need to clean it up sometime soon.
