Quiz of the day ....

I thought I would start a thread where odd little questions about odd little things could be asked for fun.

Here's an example to get started.

In French we call it "dièse", and it would translate "sharp" (the musical symbol). Don't know if it's the correct name for it in English.

Ok, here is another 'Quiz of the Day'

A lot of hotels, especially the more upscale ones, have a covered entrance to protect guests as they step out of their vehicles. What is that covered entrance called?

Back later to see how you do

there are actually several words for it. here are two.
"porte-co·chere"
"portico"
of course.. us simple folk just call it an awning *s*

Very good, Sylva!

I call it an awning, also.

Now part 2:
porte cochere translates to what in English?

My best translation would be "carriage door".

It's an old term refering to when rich people stepped out of their carriage onto the red carpet.
