WindowBlinds Refuses To Skin Taskbar Correctly With Any Skin Applied

Hello

I decided to buy WindowBlinds as liked some of the themes included and fancied a change but whatever I do I cannot get it to skin the taskbar correctly on Windows 10 on the latest build on the insider fast ring:

Image of taskbar showing failure to skin it correctly

The start button is skinned but the taskbar itself is not skinned at all and is invisible (I can get blur to be applied but the texture/skin is always missing). It doesn't matter which skin I pick and the outcome is always the same.

Is WindowBlinds not compatible with the most recent Windows 10 builds or is the problem something else? I have tried reinstalling, rebooting, running as administrator, etc.

It seems to skin most applications ok although doesn't work consistently with all UWP apps (i.e. Photos does not skin and displays the default titlebar even though it skins the border).

I have turned off WindowBlinds for now as it looks to messy with it running.

Thanks for any ideas.

Robin

You might want to go to Stardock Support and submit a ticket. You will receive an auto-reply. Do not send another email until you hear back from an actual human being or you will be moved to the end of the queue. Oh, and it's "Skin Taskbar" not "Skill Taskbar".  :)

Hello LightStar

Ok thanks I will try that.

Not sure how I ended up with "Skill" instead of "Skin"! I have corrected it.

Hopefully Stardock support will tell me the skills I need to get my taskbar to skin correctly.

Thanks for the help.

Are you using Classic Shell?

Regarding photos, you appear to be using the incredibly beta Windows 10 insiders builds.  You should expect there may be the odd compatibility issue as thats brand new code from Microsoft which is very much in flux.  For photos I believe the app is telling WB that it has a custom titlebar, but in reality the titlebar is a normal one and WB could be skinning it.

I have the exact same issue too.

The non skinned taskbar or the problem with photos?

Are you using any additional software like Classic Shell?

Hello Neil

Thanks for the reply.

No I am not using Classic Shell or any other addon, just WindowBlinds.

It looks like WindowBlinds is just not compatible with the latest insider builds of Windows 10.

I submitted a ticked on 14th May but it is still open and unassigned so not sure how long it takes to get a response as is now over 48 hours.

There are also a few usability issues with the support page. First the choices at the top-left are to login or subscribe and after expecting the existing login from other pages of the site to work I then selected subscribe but then realised this did not give me the chance to enter a password so had to then go to the separate register link and both the login and registration pages are delivered non-encrypted so the browser shows a warning.

Then on the support page the screenshot I added goes off the side of the screen and the option to add a profile photo on the main forum pages just says it is loading the controls indefinitely.

Our official position on the Insider builds is they are very much use at your own risk and we offer no official support what so ever on them as they are often somewhat buggy and half finished.  In the last batch we had Fences being broken and fixed in alternating builds for quite some time which isn't something we can reasonably support.

That said I have taken a look and have seen whats not working.  It was an easy fix so have a fix internally which will be released at some point, though I wouldn't be surprised to see the issue go away in a future insider build as it looks like a step backwards by Microsoft and so probably not intentional.

Hello Neil

Thanks a lot for fixing the issue and I do understand your position with the insider builds and agree they can be frustrating and have caused me to have to do a clean install on numerous occasions.

Will watch out for the update.

Those bastards @ MS released another Insider Preview update yesterday, and left the taskbar in that "backwards" state.  They should really make up their mind.
