Crusade: Old custom races, old mods?

I just began playing Crusade and have two questions:

1. I have five custom races that I downloaded from steam some months ago. They show up in my new game and they even have some new text (I play the Onyx, and met one of those custom races recently, since then all three turns or so they tell me something like "What are you supposed to be, some kind of rock eating worms?"

Can there be problems with those races, since I assume they won't have all the new traits, and don't konw whether all old traits are supported anymore? Until now (I just met them some 20 turns ago) I had no problems apart from some strange behaviour of the trade screen when they offered me a trade and I began adding and removing things from the trade. The trade bar stayed all the time at 100% against me (entirely colored in the other race's color), even if I removed everything they offered and wanted to give loads of money to them, they refused and the bar stayed the same.

2. What about old mods? I played until now with a private mod I created for me, but I assume the XML has changed so much that that wouldn't work anymore. But can there be problems or does Crusade just use an entirely new folder structure?

Thanks in advance for your enlightenment ;)

All of old traits still there but their bonus changed so those custom races still benefit from it. They don't get to enjoy the new one obviously, unless you edit them to have it.

The game itself seem to have fail-safe mechanic, if custom race missing something or has an unknown, it will be force to use default settings instead. I accidentally deleted my custom fleet design and the game kicked it back to use default Arcean instead.

Old XML mod probably not going to work anymore so that is bummer except it change something that Crusade hasn't touch.

Hello,

I hope that you are enjoying Crusade so far.  Here are answers to your questions.

  • Using old factions doesn't affect trade.  There's probably something else going on.
  • Mods will very likely need to be updated.

We put in as many fail-safe's as we could.  If you come across something weird, please let use know!

Ok, thanks. Yes, I enjoy the game so far, plays very differently, to the better :)

I will watch out for strange trade glitches, I'll let you know if I find something persistent or reproduceable.

As for the mods: so that means the existing ones are still processed and taken into account by the game?

Crusade has its own "mods" folder.  You need to copy mods there for them to be used.  I am dubious they would run without some modification.

I'm quite sure that my old mods wouldn't run without modification ;)

I just wanted to know whether I would have to remove them, but according to your answer that's not the case, thanks.
