It would be nice if you could look at a carrier (and fleet) and determine the number of active(ready) drones. After combat it's hard to determine how many drones got killed, and how long I need to wait before replenishing is complete or I can engage another target.
Goodness me, do you think American forces knew how many planes they had on their carriers during WW2?? Its not at all an important thing to know..... just blindly dive into battle and then count them as they fly into combat if your at all curious.
Isn't this already shown in the tooltip for the fleet? For example, one of my fleets lists "Assault Fighters 15/15" "Interceptor Fighters 4/10" etc. Or am I misunderstanding the question?

Yes, the US knew day to day the number of planes on a carrier: and the number of nuts, bolts, forks and rolls of TP. Someone is accountable for every bit of inventory in the military so it must be kept track of.
