Fancy that!....Actually doing some skinning...

With all the controversy[s] lately....War, rips, lame excuses for spitting and moaning....recalcitrant youth personally requesting their butts be kicked....that sort of thing, it's refreshing to just get back to the REAL THING [tm]......SKINNING.

Just grass-roots stuff...a WindowBlinds skin 'ported' from the graphics used in my next LiteSTEP theme which originated right here on Wincustomize.com, thanks to Alexandrie.

Being an old-fart, with a pathological mistrust of SkinStudio, I'm yet again skinning with Notepad [actually 'Texturizer', which is superior], and Good old PSP6. I'm doing this all with the latest 'WB beta', but just to be different and demonstrate personal individuality, which is what, after all, skinning is ALL about, the WB skin will be LiteSTEP-specific, that is, none of the typical Explorer shell - XP particulars will be handled at all.
Maybe that 'stage' can be achieved by diving into SkinStudio later, something I'd need to do on several other skins of mine.

After that, it'll be a simple ICQ equivalent, and of course a WinAMP 2x skin....sorta a mini 'suite', but really what I normally tend to do with my LS stuff.

Oh, yes.....needless to say it'll be grey [ish]....

Javo, you got a sec...?
I have installed LS on my 2e pc, but after I was messing with a theme (I builded a theme on my 1st comp) and tryed it on my 2e comp, now I rebooted it I get the green windows screen, whit a mouse pointer, but no startmenu or what...
Can I change theme in some way?
Styl...that's hard to tell....LS has many ways to create 'problems'.....most commonly though it is to do with missing paths....having your 'Theme directory' in an odd path from the root.
You'll have to provide a bit more info for anyone to be able to help you...

Glad you're here, at the point to reinstall my comp
I run liteSTEP on a second (older) computer, cause I knew it would mess up my sys
I have build a theme from a already existing theme, didn't touch the code, just made some grahpic and replaced them.
I did this on my main computer witch dasn't have litestep.

Now when I had installed litestep on my 2e comp It said I had to restart my computer to finish the install.
Before I did restart my compu I took the theme I did build on my main comp and placed it in the 'themes' folder.
I started LS and selected the theme, and made it as main theme so it would run next time I started my comp.

I restarted it and got the logon box.
Entered the password and then when I pressed OK the screen stayed green, with only my mousepointer there. I can move my mouse but don't have a startmenu or what.

So my question is: How can I change my litestep theme without having to reinstall my comp...

Ehm, is this clear

Styl....
Not enough info.
What OS is it...and is it the same on both comps?
How did you install LiteSTEP....was it an installer or just an unzipped folder?
Is any of it 'OTS'?
Are you running XP?

What possessed you to set it up on one comp and assume you can now just copy it to your main one?
Are we being a bit 'impatient' ....over-eager?

If you can get nothing more than the cursor, how are you accessing this site?

See?....lots of questions...

Jafo, thanks for all the effort you are willing to put into it, but I don't think I can fix this easy.
I am going to reinstall my 2e comp, after that I will (again) install liteSTEP on it.
Can you give me a link from where I can download it the best?

Styl...that's a start...but again, you need to distinguish between which OS you are using.
Playing around with shells can get a bit tricky at times...until you get brave enough to run without them at all....[not a big problem with a task manager like XP has]...

Styl skinner:

you are using Windows98 right? press F8 while booting. select DOS mode (command line). type "edit". hit return. now you are in the MSDOS text editor. open c:\windows\system.ini . change the line that says:
shell=c:\litestep\litestep.exe
to
shell=explorer.exe
reboot.

after that please check the documentation on OTS.

save system.ini before reboot of course.

the menus in the MSDOS text editor can be accessed by hitting the ALT key.
