I found a solution... but it is not the best answer on this problem.

This is a known issue running ObjectDock on Win10. The app is not fully compatible with the new OS.

Mine showed 3 modern apps when moused over. I killed these in task manager, but they came back. Deleting the icon from the dock works, until you reboot.

This has happened to me with at least three windows 10 installs.
The ghost icon can be up to half a dozen or more Win 10 Apps, and if you close them all the ghost icon goes away.
It is very annoying and should have been fixed a long time ago.

What sort of support is this Stardock?

Win10 support is still something we are deciding if we are going to do.  It will require a complete rewrite (as the lead dev was something like 16 years old at the time of it's creation) and the code has . . issues.    It's amazing it still works as well as it does. 

It is such a drama with Objectdock for years now ... however, now we know the reason at least. Not that the dock always had ... "issues"! In each version. And some bugs are open since ... ah, i forgot.

So, maybe we should gather some good reasons to show Stardock why they should further support the dock; and re-writing it sounds like a really, REALLY good idea to me as a solid basis!

I go first:

01.) Remember your companies name ... StarDOCK!

02.) No competition (which is a REALLY good reason for a paid product): On Windows there were a few more or less successful tries for docks like the Mac has. However, the famous "RocketDock" is dead for already many, many years and today the Nexus one is the only real competition. All other attempts are either also dead or never were full dock or niche products (like radial ones and such). If THAT is not a good reason than i do not know what is one! Combine that with a fair pricing, add it to the ObjectDesktop again and combine it with Fences like Start10 and voila!

03.-05.) See the last sentence in 02. – the first version of a text never is good, is it not?

So, guys; your turn ... what are all the good reasons? What do you like about the dock? Why do you love it and need it?

I would be willing paying the usual upgrade fee ... or even re-buy a fully re-written dock – when there is REAL support this time and updates/fixes are more often than 1-3 years ...  We could even do a "Kickstarter" or such so there is a definitive income on Stardocks side ...

I think there is reason why it's not commercial viable for them either to die down or being on niche markets. 

The Winstep Nexus Dock is in active development (it's also fully compatible with Windows 10, by the way) and has over 2.5 million downloads at Cnet *alone* (plus 1.15 million at Baixaki, 1.14 million at Softonic, and so on). ObjectDock (which was already in the market for quite some time when Nexus first appeared) has 13 million. Both are great docks.

I would not call something that has download numbers like those 'not commercially viable'. So much so that Winstep has been in business for 17 years already, almost as long as Stardock (post OS/2).

The free docks (RocketDock, RKLauncher, etc...) have been dead for years because that is what nearly always happens when a project is not backed by a commercial side. Freeware authors need to eat too - sooner or later they either get a job that actually puts food on their table and no longer have time to support their creation, or they get tired of it and have no monetary incentive to keep going.

While I'm a big fan of Stardock and ObjectDock, it should be noted that, while feature limited compared to ObjectDock and the brilliant Nexus dock, RocketDock does still work flawlessly on Windows 10.  Now that's some fine coding there.  

I recently tried RocketDock and found it wanting. I like using more than one dock and RocketDock can only have one. I googled it and found a work around but it involves a patch, duplicating the ini, moving it somewhere else and renaming it. You do this for each additional dock. With ObjectDock you can have as many docks as you want, same as Nexus Dock. I'll accept one minor bug to get what I need.
