OK - now I'm upset!

OK - now I'm upset!

I know that this is a skinning group, but it seems OK to occasionally post general comment

We all know that in warfare propaganda is rife and that we cannot always trust the media, but the reports of friendly fire are really starting to upset me here.

In the Gulf war, the UK seemed to lose more troops from US fire than Iraqi fire, and now it's happening again.

OK, so I appreciate the British army lost 2 helicopters as they collided in darkness, but so far the US has shot down a British plane (http://www.femail.co.uk/pages/news/iraq/article.html?in_article_id=173154&in_page_id=1625) and killed a British news crew (http://www.femail.co.uk/pages/news/iraq/article.html?in_page_id=1625&in_article_id=173147).

It now appears that a US soldier has been detained for throwing grenades into a command tent.

What the hell is going on! The US parades what it claims to be the greatest army on the planet. Well, from what I see it may be great in mass, but appart from that ....

Now I don't want to provoke a severe flaming here as I know that there was no malice in attacking friendly troops and civilians, but it's just really upsetting that this incompetance keeps occuring!

Sorry if I post more, but this is just question.

What is a IFF, or Friend or Foe thingy?
I had no idea such a thing existed. How does it work? A loud speaker shouting "Hey, I'm a good guy!!" ? heheh! No, serious, I'm curious, what the heck is it?

Old military me will answer. IFF (Identification, Friend or Foe) has been around since the 2nd world war. All comershal airliners use a similar system so they can be tracked on Radar. Military IFF systems use incripted signals that are changed at least every 24 Hours, the codes can not be broken and failures of the system are extreamly rare but happen. The Brits had to have had a malfunction as they would never fly in a threat arena with the system off. They should have been able to tell that they were being painted so I don't quite understand why they did'nt squawk emergency. S--- happens in war, Damn shame good people are lost.

Sorry about the double hit and spelling. Paxx, to be more specific. The IFF system is a Transceiver that will answer a challenge signal from a RADAR with a coded message that will appear on the RADAR screen telling the operator that the aircraft is a friendly

during the vietnam war the russians delivered Migs to the north vietnamese with the IFF transponders turned on. The NV did not know to turn them off. for quite a long time we could easily see and track every Mig in the air using a stolen transponder interrogator. when they finally figured it out, the north vietnamese were extreeeemely upset.

In response to the following question:
"kona, hows the DesktopX going?"

I am not using ANY skinning software right now because I decided to go back to Windows ME for a few weeks until I can free up space on my hard drive by taking all my MP3's and burning them or buying a new HD.
I am currently working on my FIRST wallpaper with Bryce 5 and thats proved to be a challenge and a half.

Or perhaps the whole "friendly fire" thing is a cover up.

Why would we want Iraq soldiers to know they are succeeding anywhere? If we lose a troop, we blame it on ourselves so not to give Iraq the "credit". They watch our news too, so we have to be careful.

maybe you all should take that Iraq thing to the Iraq thing thread?
