Rambling post about things I see when playing.

Greetings folks. I am deep in a 380 turn game in 1.5. I notice now there are some things I would like but not sure if its even possible to implement So here it goes.

I'd love a way to drag out the age of Ascension at end game. Usually on a gifted or normal game I am finishing those techs by the time the ai is getting Harpoon or disrupters. It would be interesting if there was a way to drag out victory well past AoE (age of ascension). It would be nice to meet one or two superpowers at or near my tech and production level to at this stage to play wit the fun tech toys for real (not just steam roll over all the existing factions).

Event triggers with adding new factions or 'gifting' events which bring a faction up to par with highest player? (tossing ideas here). I love all stages of GCIII but feel that by the time I got my latest and most awesome toys the point of the game is mop up and just expand. If a 'worthy' faction ai(s) showed up to extend the game well past AoE that would be a DLC I would pay 10 bux for!

Next item.....

I have loved Stardocks idea with rock/paper/scissors with weapons. It has worked out well. I would like to know if its possible to expand this idea. The player is awesome at designing fleets and ships. Eventually the ai will be using our designs against us.

What Id like is 5 of each attack and defense and here is why....

If you have 5 types and can ONLY fit at most 3 even on the most space worthy ship (make it so only 2 or 3 of any type could ever be equipped) then there will ALWAYS be a need to update and reconfigure ships in the field or field ships of various types of weapons.

I say this because as the player I typically design the most optimum ship that I use virtually during all play. With 5 types and only able to field 3 on any one ship this ensures that at least 2 or more factions will have weapons and such that I cannot counter.  It is just a thought.....

And who doesn't want more toys?

Why did you choose to write this post in Comic Sans?

For your first suggestion, the problem is not the tech age, it is the "intelligence" part of "A.I." The AI is simply not very smart. Even playing on Godlike, the AI ceases to be a challenge in terms of tech or production by the time the tech age bar is completely full.

For your second suggestion, I see this as simply being a hassle to to micromanage.

Two things, Comic Sans is SO MUCH EASIER to READ and so is 14pt font!

Ok so why not add a trigger or event the scales a faction (or adds one or two) after the player reaches 1/2 way into the Age of Ascension?

Yes it would add more Micro to the game but hell the game is all about micro and you micro loving folks WANTED the wheel back, why not a bit  more diversity in attack and defenses?

Ships are 100x more micro than using the wheel will ever be. More diversity is OK, but limiting ships to just 3 out of 5 types only is not OK. Keeping track of all your ships and the type of weaponry and defenses that they have for the moment when you need to upgrade will make microing planets seem like no microing whatsoever, especially on larger maps. At least you do not have to worry about moving and attacking/defending with your planets and adjusting them to the opposition's planets.

It does have the downside of making anyone reading it want to stab you in the face, though :)

Sheesh, easy to read font and everyone is a critic. Ok Ill wear a kevlar stab proof helmet here.

The micro on ships is a valid point. I get it. However my case still stands. If you had 5 types to chose from and could only ever mount 2 or 3 then at any given time some of your ships would be vulnerable. The micro issue is true to a point. I only run around with 3 or 5 fleets max but I make them as efficient as possible. I retire older fleets or upgrade them if I have the money (another issue entirely).

What causes a lot of micro is starbase construction and trying to locate the damn thing once you fire off constructors for it.

I suppose its not modd-able to add them though.

Design-wise I still say having 2 more attack and defense types would add more to the game and not burden it.

That would truly turn combat into a paper-scissor-rock game, though, if one is always limited to 3/5. At least as things are, this is only true during early game where most factions do not have many techs. Later in the game, some of the factions if they are lucky, actually do spread their defenses out better. Besides, you can just as easily build a fleet of 10 ships to cover all combinations of the five types of defenses, and then stick to those designs without needing to reconfigure ships. it defeats the TC's intentions.

Also, there would have to be a pretty darn good reason for why a ship cannot have more than three. It would not make much sense just to say that you have to because we want you to reconfigure your ships more often, which does not work as explained above.
