Warez, the work that doesn't pay

You know, I used to support warez, thinking I can get anything off the internet for free even though it costs money to get the real version. That was cool, or so I thought, until I realized just how much this warez thing affected everyone.

It hurts to walk around some of the more underdeveloped nations, to see the calculators used by market sales people that are the exact name brand of the calculator that my father makes, exact same shape and size... but very much fake in that they don't work really well, but they are dirt cheap, and everyone can afford them.

My father has to work so much harder than everyone else in his position to keep reaping profits while other organizations are loosing loads of money, one of these mighty battles is that very thing... warez. I thought of the food on the table, the roof over my head, and the clothing on my back. These are the very things that my father fights to provide every single day, and there are people out there who are just trying as hard as they can to destroy that... one of them was me... it hurt and I couldn't sleep for nights until I crawled to my laptop and deleted all the warez things I had downloaded, promising myself that I will try as hard as I can to avoid them, unless it is deemed absolutely necessary, like decoding a msg from an SOS sender.

and I'm sure it goes for every single family here. At some point, your products or the ones of your parents/friends will be stolen and sold for a much cheaper price, or be given for free...

It upsets me... and I had given up supporting warez ages ago. I wish people would see that. I wish people would understand. I wish people wouldn't come around just to destroy every effort people make to keep themselves warm on cold days and full on hungry nights.

Warez... they are the work that doesn't pay. It hurts, and it hurts a lot.

I used to own a small business, and it irked me to no end when people dropped by my shop for the sole purpose of finding my "inventions" and then go back and build them themselves to market. Even had the gall to ask me how I did this or that to make it work as they themselves were too lazy to figure it out.

Yeah, I understand, but lots of producers make trials. Adobe is smart, they leave futures away, so you have to buy the real version, but like flash mx, a LOT of people download the trial, and a crack so the limmited time is gone.
Then there is also another 'TREATH' on the internet, and that are the sharing programs like kazaa.

Actually, my father buys someone else's product to take it apart and examine... rather unfair, but it's all part of the battle in the world of business.. that's not unfair... he bought it with money

Well, I cannot fault my love for using warez, as he tries rather hard not to. If he can afford the program, he'll buy it even if there are lots of cracks online. However, some things he just need for school or would help him in accomplishing things that he really wanted accomplished.

He's been making a great deal of effort to support all that he can, but he's a college student, and you know how that is... part-time job and school. It is hard, can't fault him for it... you know? At least, I don't have the heart to...

Mary, you're being much, MUCH too hard on yourself!

My daughter is always thinking about life...she's quite 'deep' and one day she'll probably be some philosophy guru. But...sometimes she thinks so much about the sad parts of life and its inequities that she upsets herself and I have to remind her that life with all of its faults and foibles is okay...and that she's not a bad person for having a good life and whatever tiny faults she finds in herself...and obsesses over them. She's just a good person...and so are YOU Mary.

There's no 'real' excuse, Elf.

Any form of 'condoning' of warez use is not accepted.

End of story...

Jafo,

Don't get me wrong. I dislike warez... I actually like having that real cd to install whenever I reformat, makes a lot of things a lot painless... I'm not promoting warez.

I use freeware alot but only when it is offered as such and can be registered. Not being familiar with this warez stuff, I get the idea that as in all things that are too good to be true, this is.

I wonder how many of the people here that denounce warez have a harddrive full of mp3's and movies? Don't get me wrong I'm not a fan of warez but I think maybe some people have the idea that music and video are ok to steal but leave those apps alone! It's interesting to me how one can justify stealing one thing but not another!

Warez isn't only what's used on a computer. It can be everything you use in your daily life. As long as someone stole your work, pasted your name/label on it, and sold it much much cheaper... as in "it's really too cheap to be true"... then that too is warez...

No one ever said it was justified but like every topic that are so controversial, there are two sides, pros and cons. It all boils down to human nature, and what one wills to do... for good or for bad.

You bring up a good point, and it is that very fact many refuses to face. Fighting warez have nothing to do with what one says or do. It is the act of denying one did it that is unforgivable. Fighting warez is to face the truth about it, and to learn and grow away from it. "No, I'm not going to use warez" is only a small part of it, but it is definitely a beginning.
