Unresponsive screen for a few minutes after rebooting or plugging second monitor

Hi,

For a month now (after a Start 8 or Fences update maybe), my Windows 8.1 Dell XPS 21 takes several minutes before I can interact with the desktop. The cusrosr displays a spinning wheel and clicking anywhere is unresponsive.

The same thing happen (spinning wheel and no interaction with desktop or menu bar for a few minutes) if I plug or unplug my secondary monitor.

Uninstalling Fences resolves the issue. Re-installing Fences bring back the problem...

Any suggestions?

Do you have the latest version of Fences and video drivers? Rebooted lately?

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I have the latest NVidia and Intel HD drivers, and reboot quite regularly.

In fact it is after a reboot (or connecting an external monitor) that my desktop hangs for a few minutes with the spinning wheel.

HI,

Thanks for your reply.

I have followed your instructions (completely uninstall using the BAT file provided, reboot. Re-install latest version from the store, rebooted), but I’m still experiencing the same problem.

Any further instructions?

Best regards,

Fred.

Hi!

I have the same problem since I use fences. Everytime I switch screen resolution (e.g. from Duplicate to Extend or back), windows explorer hangs. I can switch between applications with Alt+Tab but I cannot select a folder or an application in the menu. I'm using Win 7 and Fences 2.0.9. Today I updated to Fences 2.0.13 but there's still the same problem. On my old Laptop running Win 7, I used Fences 2.0.3 I think and I also had the same problem there.

When I give talks, I switch between Power Point in Extended mode and Eclipse in Duplicate mode. Between these changes, Windows Explorer needs approximately a minute to recover.

Could you look into the problem?

Best,

Steffen

Another problem that I reported years ago and still doesn't seem to be fixed xD

Hi!

The update did not help. The problem still occurs when I'm working with a projector. Sometimes it does not occur when working with another monitor. Could it be that the recalculation of the size of the fences takes too long?

Best,

Steffen

Steffen, Please respond to your ticket instead of the forums, with any further information. Thank you.

I get exactly the same delayed start problem with the latest Fences 2.13 on Windows 8.1 on a Surface Pro 3.

I run Fences fine on my Windows 7 computer, and I had hoped to use it on this laptop, but as soon as I installed Fences 2.13 it hangs the Windows desktop for about one minute. Soon as I disable Fences and restart Windows my desktop displays right away.

I had never installed Fences on this laptop. It is a completely fresh install of Fences. I do run Start8 on this laptop though.

Hi!

@The_Gear: Well I can't find a ticket that has to do with my problem. Are you sure you created one?

I tried to switch from

Preserve my Desktop Layout by scaling fences

to

Preserve my Desktop Layout by storing fences positions...

but that didn't help either.

Best,

Steffen
