Impassioned plea…

Please, please, please Stardock….

Can you replace the generic tech presenting robot with a scientist from the race I’m playing. I know this is going to cost you in terms of generating the art assets, but you must already have rigged models of all the races it should just be a case of modelling a scientist outfit for them doing a couple of animations and rendering a new movie, you can use the backdrop you already have.

The one issue I had with GC2 is you see so little of the race you are playing, I know this is partly because of the expense of rendering movies but it would be so much more engaging.

It’s not that I don’t like the robot by the way maybe you could evil it up a bit and use it for the Yor.

According to the files the robot is for the Iridium, considering Frogboy compared them to BnL this makes sense. So the other civilizations will probably have their own news reporters.

I like the robots - always have and do not want them to go away... However, I do agree that when playing a race you do never see your own kind. I have always felt that this was strange and needed to be fixed.

How about an alien advisor on a little screen or something - someone who can give tips (if you want them) perhaps it can also give news of events like the old GNN did.

Perhaps even Governors and/or leaders of individual or groups of your planets - maybe we can see them somehow?

I agree with 110%... We need to see more of our own race while playing.

Rhonin_the_wizard I hope your right I have no problem if they aren't in yet because it's an early beta. I do think they have always underestimated the importance of seeing the race you are playing.

In  some interview I seem to remember them saying the provided this short of interaction through the ship editor, but while that is great and I love making ships and having different looks for different races. I still one to see actual members of my race giving me info from time to time. I agree having various advisors pop up would also be great.

I worked with a naval sim called Harpoon.  In it the messages were delivered by your officers.  Similar to the suggested GNN and pop-ups  Drengins now have etc.. having someone of your race presenting it, you know how often those come. On planet screens an official for that planet, taking your orders would indeed be cool.  If images would suffice instead animations, I bet we have better luck being considered.

Images would be okay... But if they even would consider animations - they don't even have to be a complicated animations just a viewscreen that appears (or one that is always in the corner) with a portrait of your advisor and/or governor looking at you with simple head movement loops (i.e. head turns, nods, blinking, etc...) and possibly varying emotes of the situation at hand (i.e. grim, cautious, joyous, serious, etc...). No speaking, mouth movement or complex animations would be required.

Our current plan is for each race to have it's own news robot. This is mostly because when creating custom races we don't want you to get stuck with some Altarian guy, or Dengin guy. In addition doing full character models is much more labor intensive, and would prove to be very expensive, and we don't think it would add enough to the game to make up for it in cosmetic value.

Pleased to hear there will at least be some variation in robots.  I get the custom race issue. I also get that you guys consider it off little importance to the enjoyment of the game, I just as I say think you under estimate what it would add.

Still will I be able to use my own custom rendered videos for custom races. I have silo and blender and plan on trying to make some of my own custom race movies for non-humanoid races.
