Need a member to explain what is going on with approval.

So I was tinkering with the console last night. I am going to use one planet that was class 22.

 

  • I just settled this planet
  • I created an area with a manufacturing capital surrounded by factories and a solar plant total of 8 factories+ solar+manu-capital.
  • I did the same thing with market centers and a finacial capital on same world again 6 market centers, with finacial cap in center.
  • had farm+hospital adjacent and near colony capital. 
  • Also had healing pools adjacent to consulate.
  • Current happiness was 100% for colonization on that turn.
  • Hit turn marker and still at 100% approval.
  • Used commd console and built everything planet at once. All done, planet idle.
  • Happiness plummets to 52%. Huh? why? before we had NO banks now we do. Now we have production to make stuff.
  • Why did happiness plummet? Plenty of food, Plenty of money, Plenty of production and approval building. 

 

So why the drop in approval?

Well being as the colony ship just created a colony the previous turn, why did my approval drop completely from 100% to 56% after I 'magically built' all the improvements? 

 

In theory approval is tied to being able to make money. The turn I landed there were ZERO money making improvements, food improvements, or production ones. 

 

After we built all of them now everyone is unhappy. This makes no sense.

The maintenance for all those buildings is making a big dent into whatever money you're making, so I would look into that first.

And there is the ticket and winner. 

 

So the initial maintenance of all the buildings outweighs the $ I am making from them (at this point) until the population can catch up and make a larger tax base.

I've been suspecting that maintenance has been a problem as well. Whenever I research a new generation of planet improvements (which have higher maintenance costs), my approval dropped.

I noticed the opposite happen when I upgraded farming improvements. My population gradually grew and started producing more money. Morale improved as well.

I now make a habit of adding money boosting modules to my starbases as a way to not only boost money, but approval as well. It seems to work well.
