Norton Internet Security 2003 & Windows Blinds

Here is my problem. I can't run both programs because Norton every so often pops up a message that I can't read or do any thing about. I have to restart win xp home before I can see what the pop up is. It is a message asking me if I should allow etc. the program access. I have tried everything I can think of including running and setting the program scan on Norton to "premit all' on the programs I know about. But, every time I load a new program(s) I'll get this pop up. Does anybody have any ideas? I hate not being able to use wb. If you have any ideas please email me @ manfred2@wv.adelphia.net Thanks.

Best bet it to go into Windowblinds and make sure that Norton is excluded and not being skinned by Windowblinds. Next go into Norton and tell it to allow "WBload.exe" to access the internet or go into the internet settings of Windowblinds and tell it to stop trying to access the internet. Hope this helps.

You need to go to the Windowblinds advanced configuration window in Display properties Appearances window. Click on Add per application setting, click on select from disk, navigate to Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared, click on ccapp.exe, put a check in the box that says "ignore this application and do not skin it." That should solve your problem, it did so for me. Hope this helps.

Spot on! Disable skinning for any Norton prog.
As for "Internet Security" .... no thanks, it is too 'secure', Zone Alarm is much more user friendly IMHO.

I use both (Norton at home, Zone Alarm at work) and I find they are both exactly the same. They both do the same job, equally easily, equally fine. Except that Zone Alarm is free. Only thing missing in the free version of Zone Alarm is Ad blocking. Cool feature but not worth the price of Norton Internet Security just for that.

I'm sorry, but I absolutely LOVE the ad and popup blocking that NIS 2003 provides!

I had a conflict when I tried to run a firewall with the XP firewall. Just thought I would throw that tidbit in.

I had a problem with my firewall until I turned off the XP firewall and that cleared things up..

Well, if one absolutely wants that feature, Zone Alarm Pro also does it. Besides, experts say that it is a better firewall.
I used Norton's for the last two years and I loved it. But since I installed Zone Alarm at work, I was extremely pleasantly surprised. I had tried Zone Alarm maybe 2 years ago, as I also tried Black Ice, and although all the revues were saying they were both better firewalls, I still prefered Norton's because it was easier.
But Zone Alarm has come a long way. It is very easy to use now and just as secure as it always was.

I noticed on the symantic site that Zone Alarm is one of the programs the new virus shuts down.
If you haven't read about that new virus it is really something else.

Thanks for all the input. I used ZoneAlarm Pro and Kaspersky Antivirus before I changed to Norton because I read several reviews saying that Norton was better. I can't go back to Kaspersky because my subscription has run out and I just don't have the funds to renew. I will try all the answers.

I had the same problem that you had when I upgraded to NIS 2003. If you follow the instructions I left earlier it will clear up your problem. Then when the Norton window pops up again, click on Permit access and put a checkmark in the box that says to always use this action. Good Luck

I followed this suggestions and so far so good. Now I can run NextStep, WB Icon and Cusor XP. Man this looks great.

OH, One other question?? How can I change the preferences in WB's advanced configuration window in Display properties Appearances window. I tried but nothing would happen.

I'm able to run my NAV, Sygate Personal Firewall, XP Firewall, and WB...at the same time, and no problems here...thankfully.
