Question regarding WINDOWSBLINDS

I've downloaded the free version of Windowsblinds and am testing it out. I'm thinking of purchasing it. However, I was wondering whether the full start menu will be skinned after registration? As it is I'm using mac2000s theme and when I press the start button, an icky start menu appears. I mean... icky. Does that change at all after registration?

Is it worth it to get the whole Object Desktop package? Does it slow down the computer at all?

Regarding the start menu, I take it you mean the XP start menu. It's not a problem of registration, it's problem regarding the OS you're using.

If you're running WindowsBlinds on Windows XP, then yes WindowBlinds skins it.

If you mean Windows 2000/NT/98/ME, then no it doesn't skin an XP style start menu, because those OS's don't have an XP start menu to in the first place. WindowBlinds can't skin something that doesn't exist

However, you can use ObjectBar as a start menu /taskbar replacement. It has the ability to mimic the XP start menu and can even read WindowBlind skins that have XP start menu graphics and use those bitmaps to skin itself. For the most part this works, though there are some WindowBlind skins that ObjectBar does not import perfectly.

ObjectDesktop is definately worth it. Once you get full access to all of Stardock's goodies, you won't regret it. It's the best $50 I ever spent.

Well, Chris, I am using XP. And it's still freakin' UGLY. *sighhhh* Any thoughts as to whether the Object Desktop set is worth purchasing instead of just WindowsBlinds? Because I live in Australia and it's almost double the cost.

The mac2000s skin was made before Windows XP was made, so does not have support for those XP features. You can either use a taskbar from another skin (click the Advanced button in Display Properties/Appearance, there's an option) or just use a skin with WinXP support (search for them via the appropriate checkbox on the WindowBlinds library - almost all new WB skins support it).

As for if OD is worth it, I'd say yes. Try out things like DesktopX, ObjectBar, IconPackager and WindowFX - there are trials for all of them available for download.
