Faction Power

How is the faction power calculated? To speak from my own experience it has only something to do with the military power?! It always decreases/increases when I get or lose a unit. When my city gets a level or I researched a new technology nothing happens. I also suppose that the strength of the units is not calculated either; only the mass of units. I am wright?

Its mainly military as you say, but the full formula is not public as far as I know.

We put a little man inside the game, feed him nothing but breadcrums and waterdrops. Spin him around 7 times on a big rollercoaster ride and then he just comes up with just numbers, all the time.

To be slightly more honest, it seems that massing tons of units seem to increase it, but I have no idea of the specifics.

It's weird, in my ,latest game I'm standing on just over 90 power and I just met Magnar with over 400. Obviously he declared war right away and I was afraid I'd be fucked but after fighting him for a bit, while I couldn't really push him back much, he hasn't exactly wiped me out, which would've been my expectation give his power score compared to mine.

Sometimes power rating can go very high because of resources, if you play higher difficulty levels AI can have tremendous amount of money or prestige, which pumps up their power rating.
