Campaign Difficulty

So, am I just completely missing it, but is there a way to select the difficulty for the campaign??

Not as far as I can tell.

Hmm, good question.

I fear many newcomers won't even notice that there IS a campaign... I know it works like a mod but still it's too easy to miss it.

As a "foreigner" I also would have liked subtitles (I can read English well but listening to it I lose something here and there).

Anyway, the fact that I'm trying the campaign at all is good news, as I first thought I'd skip it. Presentation is really nice this time around :)

That's a shame. Feels like I'm playing on 'Normal' ...which is relatively easy. (for a 4x gamer)

Who is going to play the "Campaign" anyways? In all my years of gaming I have NEVER played a campaign game of these types. I'm straight to the FUN sandbox mode where I get to select everything.

Lots of people will.  Newcomers to the genre will, as well as those who love campaigns, such as myself.

Ya know, I thought I was going to be the same....I NEVER have played a campaign in a TBS game before so why start?

But then, I kept hearing little whispers.

Then I heard prominent undertakings.

Finally...a 30 hour story!

Well, I had to try it....and I'm not far it, but I'm THOROUGHLY impressed. It plays a good deal like the sandbox mode, but linearly bound.

Will I ever play it twice? Probably not...but I'm sure other scenarios are going to be made.

I'm really enjoying the campaign too and I NEVER played them either for TBS games. Surely an easy, normal and hard setting would have been welcome though thusfar I'm really having fun.

I always play campaign. I like a good story. The one in AOW2/AOW:SM were long but not that great; some of the user addons are fantastic (though in all honesty i stopped playing AOW2/AOW:SM 3 or 4 years ago; graphics became too dated). Anyways not to distract I hope Elemental has a great campaign. Debating if I should download now (I played the betas up to 992); or wait a bit and hope they fix some of the bugs; something about my play style seems to bring out the worse in games and I ran into the strangest bugs in the beta.

I guess for me it's because Master of Magic never really had a campaign game. It was just full blown get into the action any way you liked back then and I grew accustom to that style of play. Never played Heroes of Might & Magic campaigns. Never played Combat Mission campaigns. I think the only game I played the campaign in that I HAD to was "Sword of Aragon" since you didn't get to randomize the map and pick the races you wanted to play. Warlords I pretty much did the same things once II-III-IV came out cause you could setup everything to YOUR liking not what some developer thought was to your liking lol. The first Warlords I guess was a campaign game though you could pick your starting race. I love games that I can RANDOMIZE everything so it's different every time. Those are the bestest and most funnest (yeah I know no such word) to me. ;)

I never play the campaigns in games. Even Starcraft 2 I didn't even try it.

For what it's worth, the Fallen Enchantress scenario is more of an RPG. You don't build towns. It's a champion stomp which I think some people will really like.

On the other hand, I always start with a campaign if the game has one. For one, the first levels are usually a tutorial, so you get the basics quickly, and the campaign also introduces you to the lore and the story (if the game has one), which at least in my case, really helps the immersion.

I admit I play games mainly for the story, and I always loved historical campaigns in strategy games.

I started the campaign just to see what it's like, then i look up and it's midnight X|

It's not exactly the pinnacle of 4X challenge, but it's fun nonetheless.

I never play campaigns! But i love this scenario! If it is built with tools what we have now, i cant imagine, what will we get in the future :)

The game is fantastic Frogboy Congrat! After 100+ hours  of beta i am still playing it, and advertising it on forums. I fear cause which games i love, they

never are popular...

I always play campaigns in RTS games.

In fact, the more I think about it, I basically never play sandbox games ever.  Maybe some games that don't have a campaign (dom3).

Pity this thread doesn't have a poll :) I have about 120 hours of play time but still which we could use books from the trade menu :)

If I play SC2, it would ONLY be for the campaign. I really didn't like the direction they went with unit construction in multiplayer. (and yes, I've tinkered with the game)

Instead of fewer more specialized units that can handle more diverse scenarios; sc2 went the othe direction requiring more dumber units that are to be used as cannon fodder as your opponents adapt and change.

No unit should be expendable like that...well...unless your the zerg. XD

Also REALLY don't like how you have to sign in to play. Don't like being connected just to gain access to a game that you should be able to play without having access.....grrrr.

I usually play the campaign too. If a campaign is properly designed you get to see most of what a game has to offer, often with a nice story, good maps, and a bit of challenge. Sandbox games usually lack the story element, so they seem a bit, whats the word, pointless?

That being said, I can't begin to guess how many games of CIV I've played ;)

Agreed that any good 4x game is about sandbox play, but I usually play campaigns if they're available.  And right now, while I'm getting the feel of the game (I just started last week), it might provide a decent framework to learn how things work.

I don't disagree with you, but I also wouldn't be surprised with this scenario:

"Wahhh, why did you make items usable in the trade window, I keep accidentally using them on the wrong hero!"

I believe this is probably one of those things you can never win at.

I wanted to play the Campaign as in the Beta I felt no reason to play with any of the pre-existing factions.  The Campaign helps make sense of the world you're playing in and gives some depth to the factions.

+1 on wanting a difficulty selector for the Campaign though.  It really feels super easy.  Great if you're just learning the game, but for experienced TBS players it's far too easy.
