YOUR HOMEPAGE SUCKS

The news you post on the front page of ths site has little to nothing to do with Windows Customization. Does anyone else see the problem here?

Nope, no problem at all.

Funny, I was just thinking that your nickname "alexbratu" has little to do with the post you just made.
Does anybody see a problem here?

I think any member can post news items, alexbratu. Feel free to contribute something relevant.

no. I think it is fine that people can upload new reports that aren't about windowblinds or other programs.

when I up load, I tend to focus on science and technology (Like the Broadband artical).

Althought I have to admit I try to focus on stuffs that affect the electronic, multimedia world and tends to be within the realm of this site. I probably would not post a story about the criminal justice system or education (Unless the story was really juicy)

I don't think they're are any rules as to what kind f news is posted but it does tend to lean towards customization. Check out the archive to see what I mean.

besides, as exciting and riviting windows customization is (I like it allot), it would be too self absorbed to focus only on customization. I do believe that there are some articals posted on the subject of customization, just not resently.

lets see what is happening around the world and pull our heads out of the sand. sure you can read acticals in the newpaper but what would your fellow customizers think about the artical?? important news should be shared.

And a good day to you to. I find no problem with the news posted here, but then again I have a life.

As Joetheblow says, I appreciate news items that while not direct skinning, nonetheless appeal to the interests of the community here, whether its about broadband, paypal, business model of web sites, Spider-man vs. Star Wars, and so on. The majority of news is still cutomization-related, but if was just limited to that it'd be pretty boring. C'mon, we need something to talk about

IMHO (in my honest opinion)

try to avoid subject line "THIS PAGE SUCKS". you will tend to get rude answers.

feel free to post more (without the eye catching 'SUCKS')

feel free to use a post subject like "HEY" or "Why are you....." Something that sounds juicy or is eye catching but more subtital.

subtital = now that would be eye catching

would that be the navel region?

I've searched and searched through the site and I still can't find anything that states that only news stories that are relevant to Windows customization can be posted to the news section.

Anyone can submit news. So anyone who thinks they can make better news should by all means submit some.

This is issue has come up in the past. Though not worded as so rudely as the title of this thread. (BTW: Why do folks insist on creating rude incendiary subject lines, usually in caps? It comes off as a flame or a troll even if the actual message has merit.)

Smile for the day:
"So anyone who thinks they can make better news should by all mean submit some."

Although I know this is not exactly what you meant Brad it still gave me a chuckle.

The reason:

My wife is a journalist, so I know from experience if we start "making" the news than it's not really news...it's staged.

However, I know what you really meant by the sentence. Still, it sounded funny.

I like the variety of the news here, a bit of this and a bit of that. Keeps us in touch with what newsworthy events are happening outside of skinning. I am always interested in other programs, new releases, and the like.

Actually what attracted me to the site was the news and the y updates, throughout the week, I can't wait until we can do what they call "Boggs" or Bogging or something to that effect, "keeping a journal, that others can read".

Sometimes when we limit things to one specific thing we get what is called tunnelvision, this way the spectrum is far and wide, and very colorful. That is where creativity stems from, I have gone to some of these sites where the news is find, by clicking on full story, and have found some of my best pics and artwork....

It is all point of view. This site is strong enough so that you can leave the news alone and concentrate on other things, and I can expand my interests beyond skinning.

Peace

THIS IS SHOUTING!!! While this is normal communication. I think this could be part of the GUI League of Designers (I really should stop talking about that).

Good to see the art of eloquent thread titling is alive and well, thanks to the tireless efforts of concerned individuals without whom this site would fall into rack and ruin...

AGREED. SHOUTING SHOULD BE STANDARD ETIQUETTE FOR THE LEAGUE OF DESIGNERS. SEE HOW MUCH MORE "GRAPHIC" THIS IS compared to this? I suggest we rename it to THE LEAGUE OF LOUD DESIGNERS and issue the mandate that all graphics must be pink with purple polka-dots and green stripes for maximum loudness.

I'll subscribe to wc if they integret blogs.

speaking of bloging, is it possible to write a DX script for it to connect to the wincust database (if allowed)? I think the blogging idea as apart of wincustomize (as well as the GUI league and other associations) could be part of the subscritpion. Or a plus subscription. Talk about talking!!!

hey DX scripting... hmmm that could be a new thread. let me get on that.

Joe, if you mean a DX script that retrives info from the database in the form of XML, then no there currently isn't one. However the Newest Additions list that you see on the right side of the WC web page is exposed as an XML file. There's DX object that download the XML file, applies XSL on it and outputs the result on the desktop as a dx object using the IE Web Browser control.

That would be very nice. XML is supposed to be the next step for the internet. Now if they come up with a standard for file transmition (as in how the data will be stored in the database as well as sent) then we will be cooking with oil.
