Question for "No-AI" Players (This is actually serious)

Hey guys.  Random question for you:

If there were an AI implemented via machine learning, would you use it?

To be more specific:

It would start off really easy and stupid, but throughout games it would develop its own strategy by trial and error.  It would slowly increase in difficulty.  If it were implemented to be local only, meaning only on your computer, the AI would learn not only how to play better overall, but how to play against you specifically, challenging you even more.  If it were hosted on ICO, it could use strategies from all the multiplayer games.

Also. it wouldn't get to cheat how the AI does now.

So, would you ever use it?

Disclaimer:  This probably would never happen, but I'm just wondering.

I don't know, I might, that would be interesting, though I feel like it'd be annoying after a while, if it could like, dominate me every time :p. I might try to talk to it, too. I might be scared about it becoming self aware and taking over my computer, though.

It would be far more entertaining then Sins current AI that's for sure. I can't stand playing against the AI... yet I can find no multiplayer games to play...

no, one of my favorite pasttimes of ICO is not only playing with people, but reminding them of how much better I am then them, and since AI's wouldn't respond, where would the fun be?

While beating other people is always fun, you don't have to rub it in their faces...

If an AI could be developed that could mimic human players, that would be great.  No more having to wait for a game and you could play whatever map you wanted with whatever settings you wanted anytime you wanted and pause whenever you wanted.  Unfortunately, that's just a fantasy because right now and for the foreseeable future the AI isn't going to compare to the challenge of playing real people.

As long as you could adjust the 'difficulty' of each AI you place into the game to fight against / with then I would be all for it. :D

...and through this, we shall create SKYNET!

lol

In all seriousness though, I still would really like to see a feature like this (although still having difficulty levels like boshimi said). It would also need to have the ability to be turned off when desired.

1) This will never happen

2) If it was to be any good it would kill any processor other than the absolute most modern ones (which I wouldn't mind, I have one of the aforementioned modern ones), so that would be rather bad for selling more copies. That and it would take much more work to code.

Hence why he said Disclaimer: This will probably never happen .

It's called a hypothetical question :P.

It would not take long for such a system to get really good.  It could play 24/7 against a copy of itself at greatly accelerated game speeds.  Maybe it could play millions of games a day.  Brute force techniques do work.  It would eventually be able to throw perfectly executed build orders at you.  As perfectly micro-ed ships danced around you.

I for one welcome our new computer overlords.
