They really played well but it was a free kick not a penalty though!
Always good to watch though Renato

Or go France! Ha, I knew those French were lucky when they became World and European champions.

Against who did Brazil play?

Ah, I guess I have to barrack for England....with the goalie they have, and me, an Arsenal supporter...

Brazil beat Turkey 2-1 Crae

Hmm, Turkey aren't that good. They should've been crushed like Saudi Arabia was (8-0 me thinks).

The news in germany say, it was a lucky victory, but without
luck you can´t win a championchip. My heart is with my fellow
germans.
Yes germany won 8-0 against Saudi Arabia.

Turkey are a fast improving nation - they played really well.

Actually Turkey played very well. They were unlucky to have the penalty against them as Luizao was definitely brought down outside the area and the play acting of Rivaldo after Hakan Unsal kicked the ball at him was inexcusable. Although the petulant kick at him was yellow cardable I guess so the sending off was inevitable. As to Germany-Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabia didn't know the meaning of a tackle.

come on, Brazil was the far better team and if the goalkeeper of Turkey wouldn´t have played excellent they would have lost much higher. actually Turkey (as Italy or Uruguay) do not know the meaning of tackle either. their way are hidden fouls, so that makes the acting of Rivaldo not excusable but understandable.

I thought you soccer heads would enjoy this,
Published today in the UK Daily Star:

-------------------

NOZZA'S KEANE ON ROY

Soothsayer Nostradamus predicted the furious bust-up that saw Roy Keane storm out of Ireland's World Cup camp.

Hot-headed Keane flew back to Britain after a war of words with Irish boss Mick McCarthy.

The star then refused to apologise for his outburst.

Amazingly, despite football not even having been invented, Nostradamus predicted the storm back in the 16th Century.

He wrote that a figure called "Roy" would "rage" with fury at an injustice.

Experts claim the prophecy says "Roy" would pay a high price for his fury and could even be sent away.

---------------------

hehe - amazing what Nostradamus gets credited for...

GOOOOOO SPAIN

Let's see that. I don't speak Spanish, but I think he said Brazil performed badly, winning only by a penalty. Right?

Surprise surprise: US beats Portugal and Belgium can't win from Japan.

Look out it is the new world soccor power, USA!

To bad we can't see the games on regular TV. >

Not a single network was willing to pay to show them. The pro league had to buy them and then practically give them away for them to be seen in the USA at all.

What other sports might be interesting if they used the World Cup format? I think baseball, hockey, and basketball would be fun. Hockey and basketball might be dominated by a few countries, but baseball has a wide following in Latin America and the Orient.

One of the most waited games will hapeen tomorrow (for us), it is England x Agentina.

They are 2 great soccer teams, but even me being a South American, I will be on UK side.
I'll be watching that one, Renato....should be good...

Grif, just about every sport has a World Cup.

Now, England v Argentina... Hmm, Argentina looks like the better team to me.
Griffinme: hockey may be surprising. European countries are excellent too. In a hockey World Cup, the contenders would be Canada, Russia, Sweden, Slovakia, Czec Republic, Finland and maybe the USA.
For sure basketball is all american.

But no sport is truly as international as football (soccer). It's literally played everwhere!

I once saw this list of events in order of magnitude:

1. World Cup (football)
2. European Cup (again football)
3. Olympics

Paxxy, you mean hockey or ice hockey. Different beasts you know.
