Incredible graphics improvements in v0.96.4047

So I was bored this morning and I started playing a game I'd been playing for awhile where I had all my fleet points maxed (2000+) and all my ships in one huge fleet. I was zooming in and out a lot and found it went a lot smoother, and by a lot I mean like it was as smooth as at the beginning of the game when I only had one capitol ship and three frigates. Even when in a huge battle with another fleet that was huge, the game ran really smoothly. The directional arrows and all lines are smoother and smaller and the game looks waaaaaaaay better and even more.. professional, I don't know, it just looks really good. Everyone should go check it out.

What details, what resolutions, AA and AF settings? Your GPU?

The game looks really good, but in huge battle is nothing like smooth for me, when i turn everything on highest, it even keeps crashing.

For me, I could only play on lowest settings on v0.90. Now, on the same size map (6 people), I can do Medium ships/buildings, Medium effects, and medium planets  . I don't know why, but I'm liking it.

So it's not like I have everything down low, but not at the best it can be.

I was playing on the Hyperton's Gates map too, so about 70 or 80 planets and 3 stars with all the AI's enabled.

Thanks for info. And was it smooth for you even during big battles?

Yeah, it was. Here's the video, might not be ready for awhile, but it's pretty smooth.

EDIT: Well that link isn't working. I'll repost. There we go.

De acuerdo!

lo veo mas fluido que la anterior version

i7 2630 8gb memoria gt540m 2gb

1920-1080

 planeta: maximo

 nave: maximo , alto, alto

 estructura. maximo, alto, alto

mostrar orbitas : apagado (porque me gusta jugar asi)

árbol: apagado (porque me gusta jugar asi)

antialiasing: 2x sombras: alto

solo no probé con el filtro anisotropico porque prefiero esperar a la version final.

(casi todo predeterminado)

I agree!
I see it more fluid than the previous version
I7 2630
8 gb memory
gt540m 2 gb
1920-1080
Planet: maximo
ship: maximum, high, high
structure. maximum, high, high
show orbs: off (because I like play so)
tree: off (because I like play so)
antialiasing: 2 x
shadows: high
I tried just not with the anisotropico filter because I prefer to wait for the final version.
(almost all default)

Nice video. Bit misleading though, you played for Loyalists, not Rebels :)

Anyway, it really seems to be smoother then in my case, granted i play on higher res and with debris on, but at the same time,  i have a far better videocard. Hm... perhaps i need to look at the GPU drivers, i dont have the totally latest version.

and the performance? totally smooth during massive battles or visibly choppy with occasional crash?

When I play in single player perfect but in LAN the performance downs a bit, (appearing some temporal delays). Obviusly with lagging if other computer is "modest". I usually play whit other 3 people.

During massive battles Is awesome (more than trinity)

Thanks, the lag in LAN is understandable and irrelevant to me for comparison, as so far i played the game as single only.

But something is definitely wrong on my side.

You can set the options to leave most unpinned as well. Helps a lot.

So i updated graphics drivers, but now i need to start a new game, to try it out during some massive battles (deleted all my saves from previous game, but the last one, with AIs already defeated).

On another note, i have to say, if the devs wanted to advert their graphics improvement, they should have done it by showing Kostura cannon.

Running the game with everything at Highest, 16x AF, no AA (don't really need it to be honest) at 1920x1200.

Seems silky smooth sofar (haven't played that long yet, D3 got in the way  ).

Also, the fidelity of the graphical effect is much much better than it was in the previous beta.

There's source lighting from missiles/bolts and everything, I really like the new effects a lot.

The new Vasari capital ship and Titan look rather spiffy as well.  :D
