Is Clumsy an obvious choice for mages. Should it be?

How do people feel about the trait "Clumsy"? Right now, I feel it is sort of an obvious choice. If you are creating a wizard, you pick it and get the extra point. If you are going into melee, you don't pick it.

I am not a big fan of obvious choices like this. You are essentially asking a player, "You making a mage? Yes? Here is an extra point."  I understand that there is a drawback if your mage gets trapped in a melee, but then again, I could just cast a spell at point-blank range.

well, I did test this long ago while, you still clumsy even you are not in range of melee. you could be archer yet you still hit your ally or enemie if you don't had ally even you are not melee, but that was like in .91, .90, .86 but I'm not sure still problem in .912, not sure my memory where version, so I don't know but I knew, not only happan to melee but also this happan when you are not even in melee too. I don't know if bug or not. I would like to know if they fixed this bug or fix what trait clumsy way to said, I though it's should happan to melee but not only melee but range as well.

Maybe the balance point should be, then, to make clumsy work for spells as well, giving your spells a bit of deviation.  Fireballs that move a square or two would definately be worth a point.  :)

NO!

Yes for me clumsy only work with melee weapons, so if I pick clumsy on my sovereign (or get a hero with clumsy) that unit is on archer duty, or dying duty...

Clumsy is a terrible disadvantage, since ranged weapons sucks :)

BTW, even wizards would want to just stab creatures sometimes, like mites... To save off mana, forgot to say 1st off though.

To be fair, a lot of the negative traits are free points in the right circumstances. For example, lower accuracy when fighting higher levels? Have you seen what level your sovereign is at lately? Not to mention that their accuracy is insane high as it is. It affects about 3 battles in the beginning of the game that you could use spells to win, after that, free point.

Then that sovereign overcome his fear and or coward! LOL

Clumsy has only worked for melee, for me.  It's a good choice for a mage sovereign, since I tend to use either fire bolt or a special longbow.

Are you sure, because I just saw mage or archer attack because of clumsy even they are not in enemies's melee. But again I'm not sure about .912 but .91, .90 they do. if I recall.

I can only speak to my own experience in two games (in a third) on large worlds.  Clumsy never has affected my sovereign's ranged attacks with bow or magical staff, or fired off spells.
