[idea] Mounted Warfare

I am a bit of a history fan, so I found he current cavalry implementation a bit bare bones.

Personally I feel horses shouldn't be just equipment to be added, which is how it is treated right now.

I feel horses should have their own associated weapons, like the Lance, to go iconic, or the Pick. On the other hand I'd rather not having Two haned weapons being available to mounted units, mostly from a realism POV (yeah, I know, fantasy game), though if those weapons, powerfull as they are, would be handled from a mount, they should have some penalties or some such, in short I'd want to see things that would make the horse, or warg, be not a piece of kit, but a real modifier to the units, including the option of armoring both (probably a deeper tech tree for this) at the cost of providing less encumbrance relief, for example.

Seconded, I did not even realize two handed troops can be mounted. Mounted troops could also feature interesting tactical maneuvers, like lance attack, when the horseman would need a straight line to gain speed, perhaps with a knockback on successful attack. Riding up to an enemy was not how cavalry was used, because once bogged down in melee with infantry, it loses advantage and the horse is vulnerable.

Light cavalry needed to be constantly moving, shooting arrows or harassing individuals or broken formations, while heavy cavalry was employed mainly in mass lance charges in the right moment.

Im hoping that current mounts are just place holders and at least they will increase resistance to blunt and reduce piercing resistance.

A bonus to spears and lances for mounted troops would definetly be great. How about a charge ability where they wait a turn for + 1movement and +2 attack or something. large cooldown of course.

Also mounts really need to cancel out other movement bonuses to help the game balance. Pathfinder boots shouldn't make your horse run faster anyway.

Yeah, I agree there should be a limitation there. Swinging a 2-handed sword from a horseback is uhm, awkward. It is also a limitation that would prevent some combo's to become grossly overpowered when it comes to troops and their usage.

I'd love some kind of benefit to horses where the troops riding them get a bonus to attack if they've moved X squares before attacking the enemy. Or some kind of similar benefit if armed with bows (horse archery has a special place in my heart since Mount & Blade).
