Brace yourselves, the warez kiddies are attacking

Last week Stardock's legal team partially shut down a warez site's message board that was fully of links to pirated copies of pretty much every program youc an think of (including Stardock's stuff naturally).

Well, needless to say, the warez folks aren't happy about that and in an amazing bit of timing are logging on here enmasse to try to spam the site full of anti-Stardock or anti-WindowBlinds comments and flames.

This puts us, the admins in a delicate situation. We don't want to censor people for having an opinion. But we don't want our website used as a propaganda tool for warez people.

So what should we do? Here's what we are doing, I hope none of our regulars are too upset about this but I'm not sure what else we can do. Basically, users logging on today and for the next couple days who randomly jump into a post or create a post that's basically flaming SD, WB, or WinCusto will have the post removed.

Users who have been here for a period of time are free to post what they want as long as it's on topic. Hopefully the warez kiddies will get tired and go somewhere else to vent their frustrations.

You may use the space below to vent on me for being a facist censoring bastard or whatever.

BTW, if I hadn't been deleting the warez posting attacks, nearly every thread on the message board and every item on the news page would have at least 1 flame from a user logged on new from today.

In my opinion delete all the little crazies you want. I don't want to see it.
We plenty of spirited discussion around here... we don't need revenge motivating a flood of bad vibes on the site...

FB, god bless you but you know what your #1 problem is? Ya just over think things. Just use common sense. If some newbie comes on and starts shootin his mouth off about how cruddy WindowBlinds or some other popular skin app is, zap them. For christ's sake, this is a skin site. Only a troll logs onto a skin site and the first thing they do is trash one of the most popular programs in skinning. You need to take a vacation FB. You're so worried about people taking what you say the wrong way you that you're second guessing yourself. Good folks recognize other good folks. You're a good guy, FB.

I totally agree with the others. You carry on "zapping" whatever posts you deem necessary, Frogboy!
Your judgement is good enough for me!

Good grief. As grandma used to say, I need to "move to town and take the paper".

I peak in on the front page to see how skinners and other app designers are reacting to Brad's article on XP skinning. (Not that I care for XP - I'm happy with Win2k. But I always like to hear what's going on in the OS world.)
I expect to see some good, healthy debate, maybe some innovative ideas, and probably a little "sour grapes". (And the usual meeting of the "Let's see if we can catch Brad in a screw up" club...)
Instead, I see that both the Huns and the Vandals have arrived and seem to be trying (and failing) to lay seige to the castle. Only problem is that all they've brought with them is a dozen rotten eggs, a bar of soap, and 2 rolls of toilet paper... (Halloween reference)

My advice: Get up on the roof with a garden hose, Brad...

Do what you have to do Brad, we don't want these creeps spoiling our website. (and if you publish their e-mail addresses, we could always fight back!)

Thanks guys. Things seem to have subsided. The warez site they were coordinating from is down right now. Pity.
