New DX???

I've been trying to install some new objects onto my desktop, ie Tiggs' K-Display, and I keep getting the message that "The package has been built with a newer version of DesktopX" yet when I go to Software or the link I have the latest version installed, 2.19(b).002. What's up? As a result, if I load the object anyway, the text is all off center and screwed up, rendering the object rather useless. Am I missing something?
TIA

The latest build is 2.19h[b].002

Go to Tools>> Check for Application Updates, to see if the latest build shows up.

make sure you have "show pre-release versions" option checked in sdc and the newest beta should show up

I would encourage getting this latest version as it seems alot more stable and less buggy than anything released prior to it

Sometimes, not sure the exact circumstances, it is necessary to uninstall dx then reinstall it afresh - if you install the latest version and the text is still misaligned try doing this.

Thanks for your replies, but I'm at a loss.......

The latest build is 2.19h[b].002

My mistake. That is the build I have, which is why I'm wondering what's wrong.

And, to Tiggs' reply, I do have the box checked to show pre-release versions. So, what do I do now?

Did you install the two required fonts that came with it?

the fonts are attached to the object and 'should' install themselves when the object is loaded - regardless, the alignment issues are dx version dependant rather than related to the fonts in use. The very latest betas have new alignment options for objects (not talking about the text alignment options on the states tab, but the object alignment options on the summary tab).

Dabe, when you view an object's properties, does it resemble the following image, with regard to the buttons on the right specifically?

someone I sent the object to for testing had a similar problem - the version number shown in dx configuration said it was the latest but various elements indicated that the install hadn't worked properly. They uninstalled dx and reinstalled the latest version from scratch and everything was tickettyboo.

Tiggs, thanks for the post. Amazing! Even though SDCentral doesn't indicate an available upgrade, and even though my DX states I have the latest build, I obviously don't. The Properties tab does not have the align buttons. Even though all align boxes are checked, it's not aligned, and that's one problem. Also, when I toggle the color, this script error shows:

Object doesn't support property or method 'desktopX object(...).states'
Line 53
Code:
(not available)

Groannnnnnnnn........ I guess I should uninstall and reinstall DX, but I hate the thought of it. Everything else seems to be working so smoothly now, and I dread the thought of setting everything back up. Which folders do you suggest I place elsewhere, then bring back in after reinstalling, just so I don't lose everything? Or, is there a way of fixing the script error to avoid all this?

TIA for all your help

Save your current theme if you haven't already done so, then backup your Themes and Objects folders. If you use iconX and have saved configurations for that you should backup your presets folder too. Everything should then be ok to uninstall dx and delete the dx directory just to give yourself a completely clean slate.

Unfortunately there isn't a way to solve the script error situation other than having the latest version of dx - the error code says it all: "Object doesn't support property or method ..." (in earlier versions of dx). However, with your objects and themes backed up, there shouldn't be any problem uninstalling and reinstalling.

I should make clear that when you save your current theme, I meant you should "save as..." with a new filename

Thank you, Tiggs. I just installed the latest DX from SDC last night, hoping it would resolve the problem. It now shows that I again have the latest greatest DX, but I don't. So, I'm gonna do the uninstall/reinstall deed tonight. I'll let you know how it goes.

I did the deed this morning, and everything is tickettyboo. Except my ankle. I thought I broke it yesterday afternoon, but xrays show no fracture. Just a lousy sprain. So, I'm home from work today, blitzed on painkillers, and playing with my computer. Oh well...........

Thanks Tiggz!

I never knew installing software could be so dangerous, I shall have to include a disclaimer in all future posts in threads of this nature

at least you have a nice new shiny dx setup to play with

glad I could help and sorry about the ankle

Hmmmmm....... gee, how litigous am I feeling today?
Actually, if you read my message again, you'll see that I injured my ankle yesterday afternoon. I reinstalled DX this morning. The two aren't related other than I'm home because of my ankle. In other words, no disclaimer necessary.

But, I'm also waiting for that skin, mon.
