WindowBlinds 7.2 build 297

Will not skin at all

I have Windows 7 SP1 x64 and WindowBlinds 7.2 build 297 purchased version. I recently had a meltdown and had to reinstall Windows I now have a fresh clean install of the OS. I installed WindowBlinds and it asked for my email and reg number, I puy them in and it took it just fine. I went to apply a skin and it asked again for the registration info, took it,  then did nothing. It never asked for the registration info again but it will not apply any skins. Here is the about info:

Joe, believe me: I understand how you want this thing to be resolved. When I had a problem with Windowblinds and MyColors, it drove me nuts. Folks from the membership here have pretty much told you and done all they can to help. There's something screwy going on which (honestly - unfortunately) none of us understand or help you fix.

We need the cavalry.

I think if you wait for Support to turn the lights on instead of just shooting blindly in the dark, the chances of hitting the target and solving this very annoying problem will be much greater.

So I'm going to suggest doing the hardest thing in the world: Nothing. Just do nothing more. It'll just complicate things more.

Something is preventing your computer from keeping the settings/registration for Windowblinds. Only Support is going to solve this. I'm sorry. I wish (and so does Hankers) we could have helped. But we're just well meaning amateurs compared to the pros in Support.

Please be patient. OK?

Okie. I have tried everything I can think of anyway. I will now wait for tech support to fix this issue. As I said though I hope they just don't keep sending me those form letters telling me where to download the software and get my serial number. I followed those instructions many times cause they keep sending them to me.

Thank you for all your help.

BTW, my wife does not think I look like Billy Crystal at all.... LOL

Hi guys,

Believe me I am not being impatient here. I am resolved to let tech support just do their job. BUT I read something somewhere in the StarDock site that had me concerned. Since I have tried time and time again to activate does this apply to me? "There are reasonable limits on how often you can activate a given product to help deter piracy"

I have saved all my registration emails and site information in 3 PDF files if you think I should post them to help tech support. Although I am sure they must have access to my info. Just trying to help.

Waiting with bated breath.

Joe

No, don't post private communications with Support or anyone else. Private means private.

Don't worry about the number of activations thing. You can email support to 'reset' you, but not now.

Wait. If Support doesn't get back to you tomorrow (even though they are very busy) we'll see about recontacting them. Did you write back stating you had tried that and it didn't work?

No I will do that now.

Joe.... please answer them. They are the ones who will solve this with you so please keep them updated with answers to what they tell you to try and any questions they ask. They're limited  by and to the info you supply them. ;)

I just added that information in the ticket.

I also mentioned that just after the first reboot there is a sig7.bin file in both the WindowBlinds 7 folder AND the root C:\ folder wondering if those could be getting Corrupt...??

Well another day and no progress. In the meantime I got 3 emails from other companies tech support about completely unrelated issues at least telling me the status of my tickets. It's the not knowing what or if anyone is doing anything that is driving me crazy.

Problem is they're doing too much... simply swamped.

We'll buzz them in the a.m. But please, keep on top of the answers.

I see. Well at your suggestion I put a compilation of what I have tried in the ticket. I hope that helps them.

I talked to someone on another board, I've been to so many I can't even remember which one, bleeping computers I think or NeoWin. Anyway he had the EXACT same problem. Fresh install of Windows and WindowBlinds asked for activation info several times and would not apply any themes. Turned out the program was not being activated properly. Not sure if the server was rejecting his info or what but he said the techs took some time but fixed it on their end.

We shall see I suppose.

G'night

What answers? There have been 2 in a whole week. One telling me where to go download the paid version of WB7, which is not my problem, and the second asking for a screenshot and that was days ago. We are coming up on a week with no progress.

I meant when you get them, Joe. Sorry... trying to get them going for you... but they are "the few doing the work of the many..."

I promise you haven't been forgotten.

Well g'night all. Still had no word back today. I hope when this is fixed they reset my start date to the 18th cause that's when I bought it and have not been able to get it going yet.

That isn't necessarily Stardock's "fault", Joe. ;)

You're right, you're right, but technicality I opened the first ticket on the 21st so I have not been able to activate it for at lease 10 days... anyway you're right I am really not concerned with that right now.

I have a family emergency, or I would be asleep right now, and I won't be back to read any posts or ticket replies until the afternoon tomorrow. If you could just put another bug in the techs ears that I posted more here and in the ticket I would SERIOUSLY appreciate it. Counting the  seconds to the LONG weekend.

Hankers did that today.

Cool, thanks Hankers! I have friends coming over on Saturday to see this new machine I built and I want to have it all themed out for them to see, I may even get some sales for StarDock of WindowBlinds out of it.

Do you have any other Desktop modification software installed such as uxtheme or any other?

Just trying to eliminate potential causes to what you are having with the registration issue.

Nope this is a fresh intall of Windows. Only the basic Windows Theme stuff is there, MS Office and my Eset Smart Security software. Which I tried even uninstalling to make SURE it was not Smart Security causing the issue. I have basically a virgin Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 install.

Thanks for the question, make s me feel like someone is trying to help.

Joe -

If you have WindowBlinds installed now would you please uninstall it and reboot your computer.

Next, login to Impulse and go to the "My Software" tab and install WindowBlinds from there.

You should be able to get it working now.

Just got a reply from tech support. Said to uninstall Windowsblinds, Go to impulsedriven.com and login. I should see my registration now for WindowBlinds. I DO!!

They said to download Impulse install it and then install WB7 through Impulse and it should work OK now.

Wish me luck,

Have a great weekend, Billy errr Joe.  ;)

OK,

Installed Impulse and there was my registered version of WindowBlinds finally! I downloaded it and installed it through Impulse, rebooted and LO and BEHOLD it's finally applying themes! I consider this matter 99.9% fixed. Just one last thing that maybe you can help me with. One in a while, just once in a while. When I have the WB7 selector open it gets VERY VERY slow even to the point where the program says it's not responding. If I wait long enough it seems to catch up and applies the chosen theme and then I close the selector and everything is fine. I added ALL the StarDock folders I could find, even the themes folder to all my AV and Malware exclusion lists to they should not be scanning any of those files.

Are there any programs or scenarios you can think of that cause the selector to grind almost to a halt?

Thanks so much guys for the help!

Joe

How many WindowBlinds skins do you currently have in your skin library?
