There's no cool quote option when you create a sovereign?
What happened to it? That seems an odd little thing to remove. I liked it a lot.

I agree, I want that back as well.
Why remove it? I don't understand how it improves the game to have it gone.
I cerainly agree. It gave the sovereign a bit of personality, something the game could use more of!
You know, I hadn't noticed it since I hardly played since I updated, but sure enough it IS gone. Is this a 'bug'?
If not a bug, then what an extremely odd choice to remove such a small, harmless, yet fun feature that adds a needed bit of character to the game.
I am also not seeing these anymore. I'm also missing the same option when designing units, or for monsters that sometimes had quotes ready for them.
Boo!
Seems a bit odd.
They should definitely bring it back.
It was removed a few months ago because:
1. We needed the screen space for creature abilities. I hated to have actual information that was valuable to new players missing or truncated so we could fit flavor text in.
2. Some of the flavor text was to long to fit so we would have had to go back and give it more screen space or truncate the text.
3. Some of the flavor text wasn't very good. Some of it was cool and well written, but some was pretty bad. So we would have had to rewrite a significant portion of it anyway.
4. No one used it. We removed it months ago and people didn't notice. What does that tell you about how valuable it is. ![]()
We could have overcome any of these issues on their own. But together the best options was to remove them. we will be concentrating on better heirgamenon entires for the creatures rather than quotes for a spider. I have written quotes for the sovereigns. But again it will probably be in the heirgamenon, not on the main ui. (the main ui is precious, if its not needed, get it out of the way).
I wanted them gone from the first time I saw the 'card' things in the beta. The fact that most 'flavor' text was weak to annoying made it just a cleanup chore for me--very glad not to have to delete the stuff any more.
Thanks for the explanation.
Sounds good. ![]()
I don't mind that it was removed from monster cards, but it was a really cool part of Sovereign creation, I'll miss it. I didn't notice it was gone because I've been using the same Sov for a few months...
I agree with your reasoning Derek, but a setting in the options could fix that.
What screensize are you talking about? Lowest common denonimator..? I think everybody today use atleast 1920x1080 for their desktops like I do.
^ THIS. An option to keep the quotes or remove them would be the best solution; keeps everyone happy.
I understand the reasons stated, but like I said, the only reason I hadn't pointed it out sooner is because I wasn't playing for the past few months. I hate to waste all the time I made on my mod that added all sorts of quotes for various units.
I came up with a sovereign quote once that was so funny it cracked me up every time i saw it for the entire game! Wish i could remember what it was?? But it most definitely would have been to rude for this forum, of that you can be assured!!
Options are not a panacea. They usually carry the worst of both choices, forcing us to support both options and only having half of the effect from them. In this case we would have had to have dedicated space to them, and made sure they are all good enough full well knowing that many/most players would never see them.
And I really wish we could assume that everyone was at a min of 1920x1080. That would be so nice, you can imagine the hoops we jump through to make sure the game is playable at 1024x768 and how that impacts screens, layout, etc.
Could you allow modders to set up bigger screens for higher resolutions, like VCMI Project does for their Heroes 3:WoG engine rewrite? In the VCMI Project different resolutions above the minimum have different defined placements of the interface elements, and sometimes extra information that's not in smaller resolutions. If you can, you might want to let modders have the capability to design bigger resolution screens, and choose the ones you like best when a player chooses a higher resolution in FE options. ![]()
Best regards,
Steven.
Well to be honest I dont think the spiders and other monsters should have quotes, because that implies that they can talk and thus be reasoned with to a degree, now I liked it for the faction leaders and the troops. But for the various non human wild things it seems inappropriate.
And as to 1920x1080 specs nope my monitor cant do it I tried but no.
