Help me decide.

HP Elitebook 8440p or Macbook Pro 13" Unibody

I need some thoughts and opinions on a decision whether to trade my great little and verily new notebook for a more older 13 inch Macbook Pro. I ask because I know very little about macs. I know most of this is opinion but both products have loyal supporters however I can only speak for pc not ever owning a mac. What makes the decision a little difficult is the fact that my Elitebook is newer. Also for the amount of time I have used it seems to be a superior notebook to anything I have used to date and it is even the base model Elitebook. The one thing I have done was add a stick of ram uping it from 2gb to 4gb. The specs of both are below. I could use your feedback because I really to not want to make the wrong decision and be kicking myself in the ass a couple months from now.

First off you have not stated why you want to do this. To me that is vital. Is it change for the sake of change? What advantage would there be for you? Is it just to try another operating system?

I use OSX at my job. It's a very nice computer, the iMAC with a 21.5" screen. http://www.apple.com/imac/design.html

OSX is a fine operating system with a real nice set of built in programs. Personally if I had the money I would have a MAC and a PC at home but my choice is PC regardless. This is because I prefer Windows7 to OSX and that's the bottom line.

I recently got my wife a notebook. I offered to get her a MAC, actually an IPAD but she has used PC's all her life and that was that.

I only have a desktop system so if I was going to get a small portable computer, like a laptop and I was going to use it mainly for Internet type stuff, I would seriously consider getting an IPAD. I only have a desktop system.

So I guess it depends why you want to do this and what you want to use the computer for.

Good questions Chas. Basically its not something I feel I need to do or should do. I was only interested in the idea of having a mac because of things I have heard and read. Things like they offer an improvement when it comes to security or should I say attacks from viruses and the problems that plague PCs. That is only part of it though. Its more of a curiosity thing for me and the fact that I could probably never afford to buy one new, well I guess I could but can think of better things to spend my money on.

I use my MacBook for personal work, and I love it.  I run Win7 under Parallels in case I need it.
