Running 64bit Programs
Hi again!
Am I to understand that 64bit programs automatically run as 32....like IE9? This is something that has been asked for since 2008 by members?
Can someone clarify the situation for me...
Thanks!

Windows:
32 bit Windows (x86) runs 32 bit and 16 bit programs, including 32 bit IE9, but needs 32 bit drivers.
64 bit Windows (x64) runs 64 bit and 32 bit programs, including 64 bit IE9 and 32 bit IE9, but needs 64 bit drivers.
Mac OS X:
32 bit Mac OS X (x86/ppc) on 64 bit hardware runs both 32 bit and 64 bit programs but needs 32 bit drivers.
64 bit Mac OS X (x64/ppc) runs both 64 bit and 32 bit programs but needs 64 bit drivers.
Huh?
Hi folks !
I guess I must have asked something stupid? I obvioulsly didn't explain myself properly ....my age you know....LOL.
I saw a thread dated around 2008 where questions about the dock supporting links to 64bit programs were asked....
I am asking the same thing....If I put links in a folder to all my browsers...chrome, opera, safari, firefox , internet explorer....I use all of them when testing my site, there have been so many differences in how they show sites.....
I have several stackdocks on my dock and when using stackdocks you can put the links (shortcuts) in a folder and direct the stackdocklet to that folder......
What I am saying is I have a stackdock with all my CS4, one for Office, one for browsers etc BUT Photoshop CS4 has two versions 32bit and 64bit and the 64bit shortcut doesn't work...
Windows seem to have sorted that but not how one would like...I put my links for my browsers in a folder and tha included 64bit IE9, but when I click on the shortcut it is the 32bit version that opens and not 64bit as I would like.
Object dock doesn't seem to like shortcuts to 64bit programs. I do thank Disturbedcomputer and Leauki for the info on 64bit hardware/software etc...wasn't necessary....have my own computer company and am fully aware of the differences between 32bits and 64bits..
Not a dig....
Just didn't explain myself properly
And finally just to make sure we understand each other.
When will shortcuts to 64bit programs work from object dock?
ONCE AGAIN - THIS IS NOT A DIG!

no you didn't but this you did
Have you tried right clicking on PS 64 on the dock and going to the properties for that Icon
if not try it then browse to the install folder for it copy the location and paste it in the dock property's
note keep the part that's Photoshop (64) when you paste it to the dock Properties browse box.
if it dose not work here is a around about way to get it to work but I have OD + 1.97
read this post ((Adding defrag to dock)) for the Around about way my reply six
omitting out what you don't did of it though
shame theres no 64 bit for dwarf fortress its getting capped at 3gb ram with large address aware so... now i got linux working i should be able to get more ram used for dwarf fortress the greedy bastards were running at 14 fps on the max area size, i would see no need for 64 bit unless you plan on useing more then 2 gb ram for games or applications.
if something needs less then 2 gb it should be 32 bit since 64 bit is more fatter...
Hi guys!
DisturbedComputer!
Thanks for your help on this...I have found out something...it is the stackdocklet I am using that doesn't seem to support the shortcuts to the 64bit programs.
I use the stackdocklet to keep things tidy, but included shortcuts for Internet Explorer and Photoshop as separate shortcuts and they are working fine..
I have adopted your method for Defrag and that works great!
Just need to look at the stackdocklet.....
Thanks again...much appreciated!

that's good to hear you got it working
glad I was able to help you out...
