MCP core locked me out!

My computer wouldn't start because the mcp core couldn't load SDC. The smart startup screen hid all the error messages and pressing escape didn't work. I hit f1 on a startup and found myself in some kind of boot configuration utility. I didn't know what most of that stuff was, but there was one about loading optimum settings. I picked that one (by guess) and finally got in ....

1) Is having that smart startup on a good idea if it hides those messages.... one of them was a firewall asking permissions.

2) Should I take SDC out of startup?

3) I was trying to find safe mode to disable SDC, and maybe that would be safer for someone like me rather in that bios utility. I read my manuel and couldn't find how to activate that. How do I do that?

Go into SDC Tools/Settings/General and un-check 'Enable Smart Startup'. Re-boot

Thanks, yrag. I was kind of wondering, in case something like that happened again (regardless of the cause), how to boot into safe mode? I thought it was f1, but it must be some other key.
